Hobbymaster 32nd scale Dauntless

Post by P39time » Tue Mar 18, 2008 8:26 am

Has anyone seen the new 32nd scale Hobbymaster SBD Dauntless model? From the pictures I have seen it looks nice, but it is rather expensive, and I am thinking of getting one. Any opinions of this model would he great.

I see that the second release of this model will be in a beautiful pre-war scheme with the silver fuselage and yellow wings. That is the one I really want.

I saw one in person at my local Hobbytown USA store, which just go in a large shipment of the newest Hobby Master planes and tanks. It was AMAZING. Easily as good-looking as the Corgi 1:32 planes and it had tons of detail. It's price is steep at around $130 and out of my price range for a plane that size. Besides, BBI is supposed to be releasing their Dauntless eventually and it will be much cheaper

Just got mine the other day and, even though it looks incredible, I am a little disappointed for the price.

Compared to the corgi models, there is too much plastic. Plastic flaps (one of which had a broken spar), plastic cowling, plastic ailerons, rudder, and elevators. For the price I expected more metal. Especially disappointed in the plastic cowling.

There also was no display stand (unlike Corgi which all come with stands).

Beyond that, the paint detailing and detailing of the flight surfaces and cockpit are some of the best I have seen.

Not impressed for the price, so I am going to wait for BBI's version at 1/3 the price..

That is a nice model but too rich for my tastes... 8)

Thanks for posting the picture, it is a beautiful model. I can't find any info on the upcoming BBI Dauntless. Seems it would be out by now.
