Small Scale Military Headquarters

I'm looking at 21st Century's P-47 1/32 and 1/1 "Eileen".

Can anyone provide a detailed review comparing the 1/32 Eileen to the 1/18 Eileen?

Can't comment on the 1:18 Eileen but the 1:32 model is my favorite P-47. It is a great model and scheme. Sorry I can't help more.

Like all the other 32x P-47s, the "Eileen" version has the same features. The plane, overall, looks very much like a minnaturized XD P-47 Bubbletop. It features an opening cockpit with figure, retractable landing gear, removable ordinance and drop tank, and spinning prop. It does not have the movable control surfaces like those found on newer 32x planes, and the pilot is not articulated. The overall level of detail is good, but it is an older design. The aircraft releases from the Zero on have much more detail. I haven't seen a 32x "Eileen" P-47 since they were out at Wal Mart three years ago. I'm sure some will have the paint problems (ie scratches, overspray, etc.) that are found on all 21c planes.

Thanks for the info. It may be a moot point. I found a few online dealers offering the 1/32 Eileen. I emailed to confirm they have it in stock, but so far, no reponses.
None of the 21st 1/18 P-47s, including Eileen, have an antenna in all the photos I've seen---very strange. But the 1/32 Eileen does have an antenna.

My Tarheel Hal also has an antenna.

The antenna (which is correct for the P-47) is included on the 32x version of the plane, but not the 1:18 variant. The 1:18 sculpt also came out nearly a year before the 1:32 version. The 32x P-47 also includes the gunsight in the cockpit, which the 1:18 version does not. Other than those very minor differences, both models are very much alike.

It is not your imagination, the canopies on both the 32x and XD P-47 Bubbletops are way too high. The cockpits are also a bit oversized, expecially on the 1:18 version. Again, both planes are older models now. While they don't look that bad, they do have their toyish qualities about them. The planes were designed when 21c wasn't quite as anal about the overall accuracy as they are today. Look at the P-47 razorback and P-40 for a couple of contemporary releases and you'll see what I mean

I think the Jug is my favorite Allied airplane of the war. My hope is someday 21C will give this old, tired mold a rework ala the new Mustang B/C-D releases. Right after they release the P-38 that is!

When I was a kid, I had a Revell 1/72 P-47D with the same paint scheme as the Eileen--I loved that model. So I want another.
Unfortunately, 21st's are the only Eileen replicas I know of. As much I am reluctant to buy another imperfect 21st plane---a lesson I learned from my Big Beautiful Doll---beggars can't be choosers. I'll take an Eileen where I can get one.
(How/why 21st left off the antenna and gunsight in the 1/18 Eileen boggles the mind)
