Small Scale Military Headquarters

What can anyone tell me about the 21st Century 32x F4U Corsair? I have been trying to find reviews on the website with little luck.

My main concerns are the folding wings and landing gear. Is it worth it to pick one up?

I like the 32x Corsair very much. It is certainly one of the more detailed aircraft in that lineup, and looks better than the 21c 1:18 Corsair. 21c offers four paintschemes, all of which look great. My personal favorite is "Big Hog," Lt. Tommy Blackburn's plane from VF-17. The main features include the spinning prop, opening cockpit, folding wings, retractable gear, movable tail hook, articulated pilot figure, optional bombs, drop tanks and wing rockets.

The seam in the wing is noticable, but the wings fold smoothly and have a better hinge system than the plane's larger cousin. The landing gear retract in the correct manner, but you may have some difficulty getting the doors to close perfectly flush. The main gear have a support strut; the tail gear may be a little stiff. The canopy is really the area of most concern. It is not attached to its track and so can really only be displayed closed or open. It does not slide and may also tend to fall off. (This is sort of like the Malcolm canopy hood found on a couple of the 32x P-51B/Cs). Still, as far as overall looks, functionality, and detail, the Corsair is one of the good planes in 1:32.

Not much to add to Tman's detailed review. My Big Hog stays together well enough, but my Saidor release had very loose wings and canopy. Many here will shudder but I superglued them together so it would hang from the ceiling without coming apart.

This is a pretty minor concern though. If you like to display yours on the gears they look great with the wings folded.

Great piece. If your canopy is loose, try gluing some strips of elastic bands to the inside of the canopy. I had my eyes set on the Fleet Air Arm Corsair, but when I found the Big Hog/Red 183 dogfight pack, I went with that instead. I was not disappointed.

The only one I have found is the British Royal Navy paint scheme. I might pick that up.

It's a shame they don't have "Pappy" Boyington's plane.

I ordered a F4U & RAF P-51C at Foxhole Toys for $16.95 ea.
Hopefully, I'll see them by Thursday.

It breaks down to $23.88 ea. when shipping is factored in... not too bad compared to TRU prices @ $19.99 + 7% sales tax.

That is a very good point - cost compare vs shipping and what TRU is selling them for. I may need to reconsider my trips to TRU.
