21st 1:32 Sherman question

I bought one of the bulldozer blade equipped Sherman model kits that 21st has, primarily to get the bulldozer blade for another project. I decided to put the Sherman together, and modify it extensively. I plan on using it to give my Abrams something to "plink" at, since, upgunned and uparmored as my project may be, it will never be a match for them. If you're curious, feel free to read more here.
My question for today though comes from my noticing that when the turret is fitted to the hull, underneath the rear of the turret, there is a sizable gap going straight into the hull. It seems to stem from the turret not really being round, and the turrent ring, of course, being round. My question is, is this normal, are all 21st Shermans like this, or is this an abnormality due to the kit nature of my piece? Any thoughts?
