21st Century 32nd scale Sherman Firefly

Post by Sabrefan » Sat Feb 02, 2008 10:18 pm

I saw a 32nd scale 21st Century Sherman Firefly at TRU this evening. I am thinking about going back and get the model. It looks really nice, what do you guys think of this tank?

The Firefly is a nice tank! There are the two schemes and my favorite is the one that came with the 32x playset. The TRU one looks a little plain, but it at least comes with figures.

The turret is a new design while the hull is the same as the original 32x Sherman, save that the front hull glacis has been modified to reflect design changes on the actual Sherman Firefly. The Firefly was a great idea by 21c as it gets us a new tank design and a piece of British armor. If you have the figure that came with the FOV Grant or Matilda, you might want to place that in the turret hatch on the Firefly.

While I've had some trouble with the Firefly (I can't get the gun mantlet to fit right, so the gun won't depress at all), it fits in with the rest of my collection well enough. I give it a thumbs up to anyone that's interested in adding a unique Sherman to their collection.

I love mine, I got the one that came with the playset. It's really cool and I love the look of it.

Another cool feature, of sorts, on the Firefly is that the turret interior is hollow. This allows for some customization potential. On mine, I customized a gun breach to fit inside the turret interior, adding a bit more realism 8)

Is the Turret actually a new mold, or just the old turret with a new gun and bustle added (a la PZIIIL). If this is actually a new mold set I may have to check it out! My Grant guy is in my Matilda and my Matilda guy is in my Grant

The turret is indeed a new design, with all the hatches opening. The hull remains the same save for the modifications made to the front glacis. I have included some pictures so you can see the differences. The Sherman dozer uses the same hull and turret design as the original 32x Sherman, just without the stowage.

Please note that the interior of the turret on my Firely has been modified. My pictures are sort of cruddy, but you can see where I painted the interior white and added the gun breach (removed from an extra 32x M-24 Chaffee). Its not accurate, but looks better than a hollow space

Get the Firefly - you won't be disappointed :D

Thanks for the photos! Well, I have to buy this Sherman. The turret looks very nice. I want to replace it by the regular earlier mold and put the new one on the chassis of my one-part-nosed 21CT Sherman. I will be going to made a real M4 Firefly (Mk. Ic). Could you tell me if the rear part of the radio-box is easy to remove? All M4 Fireflies I know had one-part radio box or no one. I hope 21CT or FoV will make other Sherman hulls like M4A1, M4A2 or M4A4, finally.
