Really... well, I had no idea. These are a super nice model IMO, I have a couple put away somewhere. Were these ever offered in action grade..? I don't recall ever seeing one at Target or TRU around here, and I got all of mine via the internet.

Well I picked one up at HobbyTown last year it had been there for a long time. But to bad I dont have another just to put away because I opened mine already.

Far as I know these were never anywhere except at Hobby outlets. Never saw one at any big box location. And in most places I think they came and went quickly.

So is it then that they are not so much rare as people bought several, squirreled them away, and have forgotten about their "stash"?

I sold a MIB Pershing for $130 this summer. I've seen them go for more. I needed the money badly otherwise I wouldn't have gotten rid of it.

If FOV never does another production run of the Pershing, THEN they will really be rare, but until then I think they are only truly rare if you are just desperate to get your hands on one. I would not be surprised to see FOV issue this model again in a slightly different version.

I was thinking that too Mitch, but I dont think FOV has a Korean war line do they..?? The only paintscheme I'm aware of for the FOV Pershing is the "Battle of Germany 1945" scheme, so maybe if there is a re-issue at all it will be the same version... At any rate, if Rowsdowser can get $130 for one, then maybe they are truly rare...I dunno..? I have two MIB somewhere, plus another loose one I bought on ebay for $15 not including shipping, granted that was close to a year ago, but they do appear on ebay from time to time, and if things don't get too crazy bidding wise it should be possible to score one without taking out a second mortgage.

A couple of work arounds for reissues of the Pershing. Offer one with different unit markings yet keep it in the same olive drab scheme. Several formations fielded the Pershing at the tail end of WWII. Second, paint it up in a winter camo version. Both would do well at retail.
Lastly, since it isnt a limited release item, no one is preventing them from just re-releasing the product. The fist issue jeep is supposed to be re-released in 2008, so I wouldnt be surprised if the same werent true for the Pershing...

I'd like to see it released again. I would buy two this time! I too would love a Korean War version as that is where the type saw the most action.

From past experience (Corgi and FM), Korean War equipment just doesnt sell as well as WWII armament. While a tiger face emblazoned on the tank's glacis plate might look cool, manufacturers have to look at what would sell best as well as their core audience. In that respect, WWII-era replicas sell the best, followed by modern era, then Cold War, then Vietnam, then Korea, and finally WWI. Alot of it has to do with the outcome of the conflict, storied engagements between tank vs tank, types of vehicles involved, combatants, and interest in the subject. For instance, little attention is paid to conflicts like The Falklands War, Iraq vs. Iran, French-Indochina Conflict, Japanese invasion of Manchuria, etc. for all sorts of reasons, chief among them the lack of interest. Once you talk Nazis, breadth of conflict (eastern front), global involvement, US armament, evolution in tactics vs. changes in equipment, etc., everyone gets interested. Documentaries help to spur interest too, as does the growing equilibrium in disposable income now starting to occur throughout many former third world nations.

That's kind of what I figured, and explains why FOV offers neither a Korean war or Vietnam era line of products. Thanks for your input Lightning, it's nice to have someone in the industry to shed some light on this and other questions we as collectors have.

I think the Pershing is a nice tank and one of FOVs better offerings, but I really really like their Challenger, and I have seen less of those than any other FOV offering. These are rather rare on e-bay also. If you saw this piece in person you would die to get one if you don't already. I think another rarity was their S1 Grant in the two tone camo; they flew off the shelves before I could get one.

For whatever reason, I never picked one up. I agree with Olifant on the Challenger and S1 Grant being rare as well. Luckily I have both of those

Yep, those are the ones!

I got the M3 when it first came out. It is painted (more or less) after the tank Gen. Montgomery used in North Africa. The same vehicle, albeit in a somwhat different paintscheme scheme, can be seen today at the Imperial War Museum in London

At first I held off on getting the Challenger Mk II, but then in the summer of 2006 gave in and got it. When I lived in England in 2003, they were all over the news when the Iraq war started. The tank is big - larger than the Abrams - and has an excellent paintscheme. That along with the T-72 help fill out FOV's modern vehicle lineup
