I ran across some Yat Ming 1/48th scale WWII AC and wonder: are these the same AC that used to be for sale at KayBToys years ago? If someone knows, please fill me in.

If they are not, what is quality like? I need another scale like a hole in the head but a lot of big bombers are made by Franklin Mint in 1/48th, and this brand has a good selection.

Hmmmmmmm.

Yep, the Yat-Ming planes are the same as the ones that used to be at KBs

I have a small collection of these aircraft that I accumulated years before XD came around, and the first two planes in my collection I purchased at KBs - a "birdcage" Corsair in Ira Kepford's markings and a Hellcat in the "sharkmouth" markings. I've since picked up the Zero, Spitfire, Mig-3 and ME-262. The ME-262, Mig-3, and Spitfire are my favorites. The planes have good paintschemes and figures in the cockpit. Some include ordinance. The landing gear retract, but not fully. The planes look good from top down, however, the underside reveals alot of exposed screws.

There were several other aircraft in the collection apart from those mentioned above, including a P-51, P-47, Bf-109G, P-38 and Mosquito. I haven't checked the Yat Ming website to see if any others have been added. All except the larger aircraft (P-38 and Mosquito) were 1:48 scale.

I have the P-38 though I have never opened it. I sure would like to have found the Mosquito! :D

I only ever saw the Mosquito for retail in Europe in 2003, though I'm sure it was avaliable here in the US as well.

Thanks Tman, I thought they looked familiar. Unfortunately I had given them all to my son years ago when he was small and destructive so I no longer have them. I think you are correct about topside looking OK; these would be fine to sit on a lower shelf but you would not want to hang them up.

I won't pursue them for the $20 most e-tailers want for them but if I ever get a chance to pick them up for 75% off I probably will.

Aikens Airplanes has both the Mosquito's in stock. They have one of the best selection of Yat Ming planes that I've seen. The Mosquitos were 1/64 scale.
