Dauntless, I can highly recommend the 1:144th scale A-6 put out by Amercom as an alternative. It costs only $20, including shipping, from this seller ( eBay item No. 261047997715 ).

Historic Aviation still has a sale going on with their X-Plus Zeroes at half price, so I ordered one. (the white striped version) If I like what I see maybe get a couple more. They are supposedly all metal and look to have very nice detail. Anyone got one of these?

Thanks to robzilla for the Hudson headsup. I got mine and did a little spruceing up. The engines were the same color as the bottom and the yellow on the prop tips were a little to large. Nothing a little black paint cant fix.













Also in the works is a few Sikorky helicopters from Miniwings. The first is an S-55/H-19 the reason is the Connecticut Air and Space Center is in negotiations with the cities of Bridgeport and Stratford for the lease of a hangar at the airport originally built in 1929. The museum has plans to use it for displaying its aircraft. Anyway my son made a rough draft of the hangar in 1/144 scale. The models will help make it easy to position the aircraft before we start moving the real ones.

I've bought some of that only in black for the background of pics of action figures I've sold on ebay. I believe at Walmart for cheap.

Never tried to build and paint a model that small like the Sikorski, get out the magnifying glass and micro paintbrushes huh.

just bought something kinda neat. It's an old Racing Champions Skybirds F-19 fighter. Based on the Monogram kit (which in turn was based on concept artwork from an aerospace firm named Loral) that was released prior to the public seeing the F-117. I built the kit and remember being blown away when i saw the original artwork from Loral.

Anyway, the diecast is kinda cool. It's just under 5 inches long, about the size of an F-18. Going to spruce it up a bit and add it to the collection....sort of a luft '46 thing. It's fun to take 'flights of fancy' from time to time.

That does look nice Epap. I think F-Toys makes a Mig-15 that has the same scheme that would look good next to it.

I was considering buying that IL-28 till I noticed the price jump considerably. Either I'll pay the price or wait to snag a deal. Should have jumped on one right away.

In a totally contradictory move, I just bought an IXO/ Altaya Armstrong Whitworth Whitley. It wasn't cheap but not many chances to even see one appear so I snagged it. Had the cash in my PP account from selling a butt load of Star Wars figures a month or so ago, so figured what the heck.

Thanks AF and Dauntless. Dauntless, don't give up too soon on the IL-28. Some of the sellers have restocked and it's appearing on the Bay with a variety of pricing----some not so bad. btw, you will be pleased with the Whitley----one of IXO's best.

I'm doing a lot of 1:144th scale repaints these days. The latest is an IXO Piaggio P.108 which comes in a boring green over gray scheme. I took an "extra" and converted it into the three color scheme worn by Bruno Mussolini's plane when it crashed, killing him. Here's a picture:

I gather you bought the $85 whitley, Dauntless? Not a bad price all things considered....at least it is a very nice model. I got the Manchester this week in an auction for $23, which i was pleased about. Have all the british bombers now....except for the impossible to find Vickers Wellesley.

Just got some good deals on eBay, a takara (winter) storch for about $9 shipped, and a green F-Toys B-25 for $18 shipped plus some 1/72 models, everything coming out to $49.48, and making today a good day!

This thread has prompted me to rummage in around my old shoe boxes and other places where cast off models are stored and, low and behold, I have a surprising number of 1:144th scale models, aside from the mediums and biggies which I make a point of buying if they represent unusual subjects. I must have bought more of these "tiny tots", but many haven't survived and others are just plain lost. Anyway, for your amusement, here's a picture of the survivors, which I'll now place under the wings of their bigger brothers on my display shelves. Sorry about some of the Japanese planes. The guys who made these, and their current contemporaries as well, don't understand the significance of the "scale effect". As a result, their Japanese Navy greens are way too dark and come out almost black when mixed in with models sporting lighter schemes.

Yeah that was the AWW that I bought. The last one went for around $75 GPB, which I lost bidding on, and with shipping from Great Britain it probably would have been around the same or more so...

That's a sweet deal on the Manchester. There's been a few come up for auction lately. Snagged one two weeks ago along with a Bismarck Brit Catalina.
Never heard of an IXO/ Altaya Vickers Wellesley? Must be uber rare then? An odd looking plane. Ranks up there with a Fairey Battle etc.
Reminds me of an Atlas/ Deagostini Italian open cockpit single engine bomber I saw not too long ago, but forgot what it was. Similar looking though.

Here's an excellent wooden replica of the vickers Wellesley 120012892758 here's the eBay # it measures just over 5in in length.
Not sure on what a 1/144 one would measure out to..

i was actually joking about the Wellesley......it's impossible to find because nobody makes it. It's one of my favourite British WWII bombers.

The wood model picture is deceiving as it's of a built plastic model, not the actual wooden model you'd be getting. Pretty hefty price tag too.

What open cockpit italian bomber are you talking about Dauntless? Can you post a picture.

Thought it had an open cockpit but it's a sliding one. Still reminds me of those early or prewar designs of heavy obsolete monoplanes.

ah the Breda......no i 'm pretty sure it's 1/100. The planes in that series varied in scale with the smaller ones being of larger scale. Only the big aircraft like the z1007 were 1/144.

i just opened my Cando Stuka Snake. It's quite nice and detailed considering the price. My only criticisms are the front of the bomb cruch juts out into space (and is waaaay over scale) and the clear canopy is too opaque and has almost a white-ish cast to it.

But overall, it's quite nicely done.

just measure it........wingspan should be 3 3/4 inches and length a hair under 3 inches for it to be 1/144.
