Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
I haven't seen any pictures of JU-188s with squiggles on their undersides----though it may be possible that some of these planes had them. The JU-88 "Wellenmunster" pattern was used by planes operating mostly at low to medium altitudes----often over water-----and the underside squiggles helped make them less visible, or readily identified, when diving or engaging in other highly angled maneuvers. The JU-188s were usually----though not exclusively----employed as long range recon birds, including many night missions-----which is why many sported black undersides. The Altaya ( IXO ) version is rather well painted for a cheaply made, mass produced, item of this sort. I'd leave it as is.
Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
sorry i guess my post wasnt' clear. The part about the squiggles was in reference to the Altaya Ju 88 with the squiggles, which is what Dauntless and i have been calling it. I hadn't planned to touch the Ju 188, except to fix the left horizontal stabilizer where the camo paint didn't go far enough.
I rec'd both today and am quite pleased with both.

I like them. Which Ju-188 did you get?

Got my Aeroart P-51D's.
I liked them right away. Fuselage and wings are diecast. Elevators, tanks, props, and canopy plastic.
Worth the price imo.
The stands and aircraft can be positioned in other poses instead of the traditional climbing. I like level flight or pealing off.

thanks for the pics, D. I guess i'll get them. I'd have to remove the right wing stars and bars on Bunnie at least. The other could be correct as is. Otherwise they look pretty good.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
the next series has been announced. Kind of disappointing. It's an A-4E (which is fine) bu also an F-18 super hornet and F-8 Crusader, both of which have been done to death already by Carereo/JWings.
At least F Toys is still making stuff.....nobody else seems to be these days.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Some Dragon Can Do Stukas just arrived today, a full set of six, courtesy of jlspec. Thanks John.
Didn't know there was a secret 7th Ju-87 pictured on the back of the card, have to look for it. Anybody got that one, looks like Rudel's perhaps?
Also received an Altaya British PBY and Manchester from a seller in Great Britain too. Impressed with the PBY. The engine cowlings have copper colored rings on them like many Brit powered radials, but I thought these were American aircraft? Inside cylinders need some black like all Altayas.
The Manchester looks to be slightly different colors than most of the Altaya bombers, but not that different and as large as a Lancaster minus the two more engines.
Just have to get the easy to find Vickers Wellington now, and of course the htf Armstrong Whitworth Whitley to complete the IXO/ Altaya Brit night bombers.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
The DeAgostini IL-28 arrived and is a fairly decent rendition for this kind of line. I replaced a broken pitot head, filled in a screw hole, painted in the navigation lights plus two small side windows and darkened the jet intakes. : Here's a picture:

It looks like it's approximately 1:144th as the seller claims. I'd hurry and try to get one now as they appear to be selling fast. I gave a DHP member the item number of the only one still listed on eBay this morning and he bought it.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
looks good....i have one heading to me in the mail. Wingspan needs to be just under 6 inches for it to be 1/144, so i suspect it's a bit on the small side, but not too bad.
Yes for some reason this plane is selling fast and prices are rising quickly as a result. I'm surprised by its popularity.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
One thing about many of the DeAgostini Soviet models is their tendency to feature small sand-like bumps on their surfaces. This is the result of hasty production methods. As the parts churn out of the molds there are small rough spots that should be fine sanded off to get a smooth surface. Obviously the Chinese factory that cranks out these low budget gems can't be bothered. I find this problem mainly on the all-aluminum models, not those with camouflage schemes. The IL-28 is no exception, but it still looks OK----bearing in mind what it is-----a made-on-the-cheap product.
Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
well, i think it's a choice between cheap models and no models. I doubt any of the higher end companies would be making the kind of planes that deagostini does (and altaya too for that matter). So if they're a bit crude, so be it.
Besides, it seems fitting that these models of russian planes are a bit crudely finished. The real things were too.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
the Cando Rudel stuka is a G-1, is it not?....with short span wings. The F toys version is a later G with extended wingtips, which is how most of the Stuka G's were. Cafereo also made the same plane (i think it's Rudel, it's a Stuka G anyway) and it is also with extended wingtips.

Close ups o some aircraft I don't have yet too, would like to obtain.
Haven't seen that Can Do Rudel yet. It does appear to have a shorter wingspan. The Cafereo is an option then, thanks for sharing.
Want to take a couple of different variants of the Can Do Stuka's out of the package first. Curious as to how much is diecast and how much plastic. Though not too concerned about it as I've been buying 1:144 aircraft of both types.

Re: Beginnings of my 1:144 aircraft fleet
Historic Aviation still has a sale going on with their X-Plus Zeroes at half price, so I ordered one. (the white striped version) If I like what I see maybe get a couple more. They are supposedly all metal and look to have very nice detail. Anyone got one of these?
(thanks to Jolley Roger for that heads up a while back)
http://www.historicaviation.com/search_ ... &x=15&y=17
They also have the IXO Fiat Cicogna on sale for $11.99 so I ordered one of those. It will be my first Italian bomber. Shipping cost is decent for US buyers.
Missed out on the Century Wings 1:144 A6 Intruder they seemed to have sold out on, but they have the F-14 Tomcat still on sale at 19.99. Considering one of those.
They also have the Fugaku 6 engine bomber for $49, and lots of other stuff to dig through like 1:144 "kits" that don't say what they are but I suspect are F-Toys or Cafereo, but not certain.
Also ordered the F-Toys Wing Kit 11 P-47's Redtail and Little Chief from Radjapan I posted a link earlier in the thread, and a F-Toys 1942 F4F Wildcat. They seem to have the best prices so far on these.
