My web site might help you as well. For nearly all of the Dragons that I have, I've posted close-up photos of the models.

Thanks, Cary! I've been going to your website for years because of the great reference material you have there. When I checked it out a few months ago and saw all the diecast reference that had been added, I was pretty impressed.

Where did you get the display cabinets? They are pretty nice with how thin but wide they are.

I got it from an eBay seller named "custom_display." His eStore goes by the name "Canadian Custom Displays." The one I have was built for 1:43 racing cars, but all of the 1:72 armour I have fits perfectly. The radio antennas have to be bent back a bit, but that's not a problem.

The seller is a bit rude, though, and it takes him a while to ship items. He's a power seller and it shows - his customer service skills suck. It took him 3 weeks - 15 actual business days - to ship an item to me from Brampton, a half hour drive from my address.

21C King Tiger S1

Post by ChairmanMilo » Mon Jul 09, 2007 5:38 pm

I just received a second-hand King Tiger S1 today and I noticed something about it that I have never encountered with any of the other diecast tanks I have received - the oil wash is coming off!

Every time I touch it, even lightly, my fingers go black. I don't think the wash was sealed properly. Has anyone else had this trouble with this specific model?

Do I need to buy some Tamiya Dullcoat to seal the oil weathering? Because it's gross the way it is. I know for certain it isn't dust. I don't even think this one was put on display longer than a month or two. It just makes my hands black and pisses off SWMBO because of what she thinks I'll get the residue on :)

Well, I made some cuts to my collection. I sold off my Jagdtiger and Panzer III E/F on eBay because I just don't have enough room for everything. The Jagdtiger looked great before I got the 21C King Tiger S1 - now that is a great-looking vehicle with super weathering. The Jagdtiger just doesn't look as good as when I first got it, and I managed to sell it for a decent price. The Panzer III went for more than twice the amount I paid for it, which pleases me somewhat. I also sold a bunch of my FoV diorama material that I just don't use at all. There's a second identical lot of it that I re-listed...

I am also auctioning off the Dragon Armor Maus (I never liked it very much) and one of the Ferdinands (I had one already that I liked better... I got the second one because a retailer shipped it by mistake and sold it to me for a reduced rate). While I needed to reduce my 1:32 collection, I don't have to reduce my 1:72 - I actually plan on getting some more Easy Model tanks (KV-1, JS-3, M26 Pershing, M113 ACAV and a T-34/76) as well as some of the new Dragon Armor releases (Sherman V "Tulip" 60307 and Sd.kfz.251/10 Ausf.C w/3.7cm PaK 60294).

I was going to hold out and see if I could get an Operation Cobra playset just because of how great the German soldiers looked, but I managed to get a much cheaper Sherman Firefly "kit" from an eBay retailer that I've done business with a few times. I know that the WW2 Attic would have gotten them within a month or so, but I couldn't pass up such a good deal. I'm still trying to decide whether or not I should add more infantry to my 1:32 collection or to buy one of the new releases...

If I have absolutely any energy tomorrow that isn't spent cleaning the apartment for when my friends come over this weekend, I'll post a review of my Matilda II.

Also - a new picture of my 1:72 display cabinet. It looks a lot better now.

I Love your collection of 1:72 scale stuff. I have a similar sized collection but unfortunately most of it is packed away in boxes and never sees the light of day. Love the way you've got your 1:72 armor lined up in those clear plastic display boxes, where did you get those??

Two new editions in 1:72 - an Easy Model KV-1 and KV-2:

Image

Unlike previous releases by Easy Model, the guns actually elevate. My Ariete C1, M4A3E8 and 12.8cm Sturer Emil all have static guns.

The tracks look horrible. They look good from a bit of a distance though ;)

Postman came today to bring me the last Panther that will fit on my 1:72 shelf.

One more - the Hornisse #60060 - and the shelf will only have room for one or two more small AFVs. Maybe a T-34/76 or the Sherman Tulip.

Yup, one of the originals with a diecast hull. Now I have 60011 and 60012 - the two oldest Dragon models that I own.

The (near) complete collection. I have room for everything, and I haven't had to hide any in the closet from SWBO.

Image

The last addition until I decide what to get (the SU-85, SU-100, Sherman Tulip or SdKfz 251/7 w/2.8cm) next.

Got rid of my 21st Century StuG IV, SdKfz 7, Panzer III Ausf E/F and M7 Priest. They were just ugly as sin sitting next to my Forces of Valor armor. I reluctantly got rid of some FoV triplicates I had... a Tiger I, Tiger II and Panzer IV. Managed to get a good price for most of them.

Have to make room for the new FoV Ferdinand and Stryker, after all... not to mention the 21C Marder III and Panzer 38(t).

I've made vast improvements to my 1:72 collection! I have picked up a whole whack of Dragon Armor at low prices. I'm not running out of space for those at least.

Now that I've received almost all of my most recent acquisitions (save a box w/7 early Dragon Armor items, a box w/2 Dragon Armor Shermans from Bad Cat, a shipment from China w/3 Easy Model planes and of course my precious pre-ordered Marder III and Panzer 38(t) from the WW2 Attic... thanks Matt!) I'm going to post updated pictures of my collection as it is arranged now, and of each of the new items.

Here's a list of what I'm going to show y'all over the next few days:

FOV 81004 M5A1 Stuart

DA 60010 Panther Ausf G early production
DA 60021 Tiger I
DA 60022 Tiger I
DA 60038 Jagdpanther early production
DA 60053 Elefant
DA 60097 Tiger I early production
DA 60118 Sturmgeschutz IV late production
DA 60128 Jagdtiger (P) special edition
DA 60134 T-34/76 mod 1940
DA 60135 T-34/76 mod 1941
DA 60139 SdKfz 251 Ausf C
DA 60296 SdKfz 251/7 Ausf D
DA 60308 Sherman V 'Tulip'
60312 Sturmgeschutz III Ausf G early production
DA 60354 M2A3 Bradley

AT 72003 Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf M

EM35000 AS-90 Braveheart "THOR"
EM37279 Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 (Trop 1/JG 27, Hans-Joachim Marseille)

My favourites out of all the new additions? The M2A3 Bradley and StuG III look amazing! I'm going to have to take some great photos with my fiancee's new camera to show you how great they are. The Sherman Tulip is pretty nifty too (yes, I said nifty).

Seriously, the Dragon Armor M2A3 Bradley kicks the Forces of Valor M2 Bradley's a$$. And to think they're releasing an M6 Bradley Linebacker soon, too! I'm running out of room for my 1:72 as it is!

I've set aside room for the FoV Ferdinand & Stryker as well as the two Marder IIIs, Hetzer and Panzer 38(t). I won't have any more room for 1:32 after that, so diecast manufacturers, stop releasing what I have to have until a) after my wedding in July and b) I get more shelf space!

Here are some up-to-date collection pictures!

On my Ikea desk my fiancee and I have two small shelves. I've placed my entire collection of 1:72 planes, my favourite Tigers and my favourite Panthers on my shelf:

Image

My 1:72 display case is full again. There's a bit more room for two Shermans I'm waiting for from Bad Cat and one or two more M113s or HMMVWs from the batch I bought from grunt:

Image

My 1:32 collection, which has been reduced a tiny bit. I have set up all my AA units on top and scattered 1:32 figures about:

Image

My brand new Stuart:

All five Forces of Valor diecast figures that represent glider infantry that fought during the Normandy landings:

All five Forces of Valor diecast figures that represent soldiers that fought in Baghdad in 2003:

My four German 352nd Division soldiers. The weathering on the helmets is fairly cool:

The first two Dragon Armor Tigers w/zimmerit, 60021 and 60022. The weathering on the Normandy Tiger's tracks is pretty bad, but it could be worse:

60097, my first winter Tiger:

Image

I finally got a hold of a Kurland Panther (60010) that didn't cost a fortune. Believe it or not, I got it for $9.99! You can still find deals on eBay if you're patient enough... the guy had it listed as Buy It Now for that price.

Image

The description for this tropical Bf 109 says that it was Marseille's last ride. It looks great even if it isn't true:

My brand new, long-awaited early Jagdpanther (60038). It may be a somewhat inaccurate representation, but it looks great and it was well worth the wait.

Image

My equally new winter StuG III Ausf G (60312).

Image

Sherman V Tulip (60308). I dropped it on the floor right after I took this picture and had to re-glue one of the rocket platforms. There was much cursing, and thankfully the fiancee wasn't around to hear it:

Image

My "Black Panthers" M4A3(76)W VVSS (60163). What collectors say about Dragon Armor Shermans is absolutely correct - the level of detail is mind-boggling. It's superior to my FoV Sherman and lightyears ahead of my Easy Model Sherman:

Latest Panzer III Ausf M by Admiral Toys. Their customer service on this board has been so great that I plan on being a loyal customer of theirs for a long time:

Sturmtiger 60025, one of the first releases. I couldn't resist getting it at the price it was available for:

Image

Ferdinand 60053, a later model than the Elefant I already have. I couldn't resist getting it - the camoflage looks great:

Image

Jagdtiger (P) 60126. It's the special version that has the gun in its travel lock. One or more in every case of Dragon Armor models was a special model if I recall correctly - at least, when it came to earlier releases:

Image

StuG IV 60118 - my winter StuG IV. It's a late model, so it complements the other early model that I have:

Image.

My fleet of SdKfz 251s!

Image

SdKfz 251/7 Ausf D with the cool squeeze-bore 28mm gun:

Image

SdKfz 251/2 Ausf C rivetted construction:

Image

SdKfz 251 Ausf C - the only vanilla 251 I have, and I got it because of the great camoflage:
