I haven't built mine yet - will probably be a Christmas present for my son (and me too) to work on over the Christmas break.

I got it from MilitaryToyShop for $149.99 - don't remember what shipping was - probably $15 or $20 in the US.

Did any of you guys have problems with Military Toy Shop?

Post by trex0770 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:09 am

I ordered the 4D 1/32 Tomcat last week but haven't received any word on shipping or updates in the "My Account" section. How long did it take for guys who ordered this or any other orders from MilitaryToyShop?

I also tried emailing and calling several times but received no answer.

Thanks!

Trex,
It took about 5 business days for mine to arrive - I can't remember if they sent an email about it shipping, I think it just showed up?

I had no problems ordering through Military Toyshop. They sent out email confirmation, etc.Their service was good.

That price at Military Issue[$119] is very good.I don't think you will find it cheaper than that.

My local Hobbytown USA store had one of these F-14s sitting on the shelf today 8) It was selling for $120. Based on what I could see through the little window on the box, the detail is amazing and while it is tempting, I must save my cash for the upcoming JSI plane.

FYI, you can get this for $80 after a 40% coupon from Hobby Lobby. Not all stores stock it though, and from what I've seen, in limited quantities if at all.

After seeing those pics, I'm going to have to pick up a F-14.

I would definitely pick up a 1/32 Jolly Roger F-18 Hornet... ;)

Now if only BBI came out with a 1/32 Hellcat...

I am tempted to glue the "cut-away" pieces together as I could care less of the internals. This thing is a beauty less the falling pieces.

Pics up later if I have time.

I picked one up a few months back. It can be used for light play, but don't expect all the parts to stay in one place. The airbrake does not stay in closed position, it's loose. Also the model is slightly fragile, I never got the side fuselage to mount flush and a few pegs snapped off. Also, one of the wing panels does not stay in place if you do barrel rolls with this thing, so it will fall off.

The most disappointing thing is the lack of interlocked wing sweep. The wings swing independently of one another, which is disappointing for me. It's cool for those of you who wanted asymetric wing sweep, but I doubt most of you did.

Definitely more of a display piece as anything, don't expect this to be handled like a 32X model. I wish it could but the beauty of this is in the detail.

Definitely a piece that will get a ton of attention on display. It can be played with lightly so long as you know that it's fragile in certain areas and some panels are prone to falling off.

It's the only model of it's kind, and very detailed.
Shin's wishlist for 1/18 and 1/32 with retractable landing gear and more:

F-14 Tomcat, F-8 Crusader, A-4 Skyhawk, F-105 Thunderchief, A-6 Intruder, F-15C, F-15E Strike Eagle

The Tomcat and the 1/72 Space Shuttle arrived at our Hobby Lobby as well, only 1 of each though. Already had the F-14 so got the shuttle with 30% off. The Tomcat is a thing of beauty and the Space Shuttle ain't bad either.

This place has them on sale for under $100. Not bad considering I paid $150 for mine.

If anyone is still looking for one of these - here's a good deal on Ebay for BIN $80
http://cgi.ebay.com/4D-Master-1-32-F-14 ... 3efad3f88a

Better yet, if you have a Hobby Lobby go check their shelves - mine has two for $129 but there is an online coupon every couple of weeks for 40% off any one item so that brings it to $78 before tax. Very good deal.

I keep toying with the idea of getting one of these. Modern is my era, so it would seem to be a perfect fit, but the Tomcat has never really been my favorite, so I keep holding off. Also I'm a bit concerned about the paint scheme, I'm certainly not a rivet counter or anything, but I can't see any spots on this Tomcat at all. I'm sure I could have the GF break out her airbrush and add them, but for this type of money I really shouldn't have to.
