Wow ! Just getting caught up on this thread, and took me a long time to get through it.

Great work CplSlade, and your modelling skills are very good, and improving all the time.

Can't believe you were blowing through those kits as fast as you did, but still making them look great.

Lots of nice armour in there, and thought your He 111 turned out fantastic. 8)

Like you say, if you can build kits to this standard, why go for prebuilt diecast. Those are for the rest of us who don't have the time, space or skill.

Great stuff :D

Thanks for the comments. Considering the way I've approached model-building, I think I've done pretty good overall - certainly better than I did in my youth but thankfully we have youtube now, and lots of people posting their work online for others to crib from.

As much as I miss going into the stores to see what new 1/32 offering would be waiting on the shelves, researching each kit to pick out a scheme has made me learn more about each vehicle than I would if I had just popped opened a box and sat it on a shelf. I've certainly learned that the German leadership was mega retarded to think they could win anything with such a small handful of hardware, all things considered.

Oh, and BTW I just finished three more:

Well, it's been a while since my last post. Finishing up the last few weeks of school, then a month of a summer school program, then finally family trips all ate up some time. Build-wise, all I mostly did was finish up a bunch of figures I had started some time back, finally got the Bison essentially finished until I start the diorama I've planned for it, started a Heinkel He-162 which is nearly ready to paint, and...

...worked on a 1/32 commission build. Which I finally got the camo on tonight and now can begin weathering/finishing. I think I did a better job on this one than the first I did a couple of years ago.

I got the schurzen to be removable:

Nearing the finish line. Then I can finish my He-162. Or maybe one of the other dozen kits still sitting on my shelf.

Very nice! Love the painting on the figures as well. Better than much of the prebuilt stuff we got.

All right, so that's on its way to Fitzy now to join the rest of its 1/32 brethren.

That's definitely a one-of-a-kind piece you have in your collection now. You can't go to the store and get one painted to order!

Thanks for all your hard work. It is going to a good home, and I am very looking forward to adding it to my collection.

Decided to go back and add the schurzen to the Brummbar I built a while ago seeing as I had the paint out already for the Jgpz IV. Here they are painted but not weathered or otherwise finished:

Hopefully I can get them to roughly match.

Oh, and I'm pretty much finished with this as well:

Been busy trying to finish up some figures since school started again. My 8th grade daughter played on the 9th grade volleyball team until the season ended last week so my time has been limited but here is what I've got so far:

Except for painting buckles, clasps, and other metal bits, all the basic colors are laid down. Then I can start attaching a few bits of random gear and start weathering/highlighting.

Oh, yeah, and I forgot to post this earlier:

Small side project while I wait for layers to cure:

Image

These are reissues of some old miniatures I used to order from the back of StarLog magazine years ago. They are based on the designs in the Franz Joseph technical manual that had been published not much earlier. They were compatible with a tabletop game rule set which at that scale was more room-top than table. I still remember chasing my friend's light cruiser up the stairs with a Romulan BoP and having to resolve the energy weapon halfway up.

This what you get, mostly:

Image

I also ordered a decal set:

Somehow during either our move from Florida to NYC or NYC to Georgia I lost the box containing my original Star Trek minis. I had these original plastic ones plus multiples for different ships and other ship classes in lead/pewter. Not only were there Klingon, Romulan, Tholian, and Gorn vessels, there were also Kzinti from the animated series as well as Andromedans. At the same time another company was producing Star Fleet Battles, which utilized a different combat system but the scales were the same so people made their own specs. The reissues are of a different material. My OG ships were an off-white which looked more natural as is; these are too white. Plastic wasn't as brittle, either. They also offered clear and colored plastic ships to represent cloaking and other game effects. I don't know if these are even offered anymore as they had limited supplies when I bought them a few years ago.

Eventually these were used for the tabletop combat side game for the FASA Star Trek rpg in the 80's, and they made even more. I still have the backing cards from several of what I bought:

Gorn cruiser
Gorn Heavy Cruiser
Klingon D-7 battle cruiser (TOS version)
Klingon D-7 battle cruiser (Wrath of Khan version)
Klingon D-10 heavy cruiser
Kzinti Shuttle Carrier
Regula One station (underscale)
Romulan Bird of Prey (TOS version)
Romulan Condor
Romulan Winged Defender
Tholian web spinner
USS Chandley
USS Enterprise (Wrath of Khan version)
USS Excelsior
USS Grissom
USS Reliant

Since the 88 kit came with a crew they had to be included in any display, right? And so what better way than a diorama/base situation? This will be my first in at least 35-40 years. So far, all I've done is the main blocking:

My end game is an open area of tall grass, mostly beaten down by previous vehicle traffic, and these guys have recently set up to provide support for the advancing panzers (not depicted!). Early in the war as per their uniforms. A little mud from the ground being churned up a bit but nothing like the Eastern Front. Dragon makes a nice kit for that which I intend to get along the road.

Painted and ready for final touch-ups and weathering:

Can't believe I started this thread a little over three years ago, and that I started switching over to 1/35 two and a half years ago. Pretty much a kit a month when I average it out and that's not counting the planes (four of them) I've built during that time, plus the Jagdpanzer IV I built on commission. Only six left of the first batch I started and then I can start phase two, which will bring in Pzkpfw III's and Panthers!

So, that replaces my Unimax/FOV Kubelwagen and Schwimmwagen.

The next round coming up:

Base coats are on, so now it's time to do small items, decal, and weather. Three more after these and I will have finally finished that batch of 30+ I started 2 1/2 years ago.
