Admiral 1/72 Su-85 pre-order

Post by Philip » Tue Apr 03, 2007 1:07 pm

Diecast Direct has Admiral's 1/72, Su-85 listed at $44.95, pre-order. Surely, this is a misprint. I have e-mailed Admiral, as well as, Diecast Direct, for a clarification. I will let you know the response.

Did a little more research, and I think this will be a limited item of 600. Still pretty steep for a mostly plastic tank. It will be interesting to see how the Diecast community reacts to this. Will you be buying?

Doubt I'd spend that on an ALL plastic 1/72 tank, could care less if it's limited edition.

I agree, I like 1/72nd as a scale and I'm starting to add more pieces to my collection lately, but $50 a pop is a little too steep for me, limited edition or not. On a related note I believe someone is coming out with a 1/72 Russian KV-2 in the near future, with a price point around $25 or so as I recall.

That's Hobby Master coming out with the KV-1 and KV-2 and depending on where you look, they're under $20 (and they're diecast). Easy Models will release both a 1/72 KV-1 and KV-2 as well at some point (all plastic though).

Back to the SU-85, Altaya released one and they're about $13 (10 Euros). Not available in the US yet, but you can find them on Ebay. About $30 less for the diecast Altaya SU-85 than the upcoming Admiral Toys SU-85 which will be plastic (though surely more detailed than the Altaya version).

Diecast Direct informed me that the pre-order price of $44.95 is correct.

I received the below e-mail from Jason at Admiral Toys. He is always prompt with info. I hope this new pricing works for Admiral, since they do make a pretty good product. We will have to wait and see.

Thank you for your concern regarding our pricing. I too have posted several
post regarding the price points on the Model hanger and Small Scale regarding
the numbers released.

Each tank is individual hand casted and hand made.
The quantities per release will range from 200 units to a max of 600 units per
release, world wide distribution. In our opinion this is very limited.

Regards,
Jason
