Diorama 1/144 dogfight

Post by warhawker » Tue Jan 09, 2007 8:47 am

This past weekend, I found the new dogfighter set of 1/144 scale Hellcat and Nakajima. I would like to either do
A - dio with them both either in an air dogfight or
B - A dio with only the Hellcat and other Hellcats on the deck of a carrier.
My question is, if I do option A what would be the best way to suspend the aircraft in the dio?
If I do option B what would be the parameters for the decking of an aircraft carrier. What suggestions do you have on re-creating the decking? What figures of N-scale manufacture would be best depicted navel personnel for the dio?
I appreciate any help you have.

One other thing, has anyone tried to remove the landing gear for these aircraft?

Depending on how you want to display and view the dio, using a piece of heavy wire or very thin metal tubing placed into the base with the aircraft suspended atop would hold the plane in the air. The tubing can be cut to different heights to place the aircraft at different elevations. This is what Corgi did with a couple "dogfight dioramas" they made for their 1:72 planes. Alternatively, you could build some sort of frame over the top of the dio and suspend the planes underneath using thin fishingline. Hope this works for starters
