Prices for early Dragon 1/72 armor
Prices for early Dragon 1/72 armor
I see pretty high prices for 60001, 60002, etc., at certain webstores - as high as $250.00! Then I see where a 60001 went for ca. $90.00 on e-bay. My question is this: Has anyone seen one of the early Dragon models go for $200.00 + ? It is my opinion that we will realize the much higher prices years down the road. I do not buy these for an investment, so those of you who do, probably have a more realistic view of their value. My basic view is that an item is worth a certain amount, only if someone will pay that amount for it.
They were going for more a couple years ago when these were 'hot," but now things have cooled off some, and there is more competition in the scale, and WAAAAAAAY more Tigers, prices have dropped. I don't see a continued rise in prices for these. "Hot" collectibles come and go. You want a good investment tip? Buy beanie babies.

Earlier in the year, DRR60001 & DRR60002 would go for $150+ on Ebay, but they've dropped over the last few months. Now they sell for less than $100 on Ebay ($80-$90 on average) and have done so for the last several months. It was only a matter of time before the prices started to come down.
The limited Edition Cyber Hobby releases have come down a little, though the Carius Tiger still brings in alot of money. However, Dragon may eventually release all of the Cyber Hobby releases in the regular Dragon Armor lineup.
They just did this with DRR60185 which was released as limited edition by Cyber Hobby early in 2006 and was just announced to be released in the regular Dragon Armor range too. It's the exact same as the Cyber Hobby release, even the same product code # (DRR60185). They may have done this to get rid of extra stock if they didn't sell well for Cyber Hobby, but the Cyber Hobby website does show this as sold out so it's possible this could be a sign of what's to come with all limited edition pieces being released in the regular range at some point.

I sold these early releases and my Cyber-Hobby exclusives in the spring and this past summer. I got them because they were cool...but when I started seeing the prices going up, they sort of lost their "toyness"...I really didn't want them any more. FOV was just fine with me at 8 bucks a pop. Anyway, I got $193 and $190 for my Ottos and $103 for my 60001 Wittman. I did pretty well on the others too. I really don't miss them at all.

I sold 2 of my Wittman Tigers about a year ago for $215.00 apiece at a model show I attended. I couldn't believe the rediculous prices they were fetching on E-bay. I don't really buy these tanks to sell. I use them to play war games. So the increase in price of some of the tanks really turns me off. It would kill a lot of collectors to see all of my tanks out of the boxes, all lined up in the drawers (including about 6 of the first issue Tigers). It's kind of like having a classic Corvette. You can leave it in the garage, or you can drive it.

I'm a legend in my own mind.
I'm the same way, the packaging goes straight in the garbage when I purchase mine.KAMIKAZE wrote: It would kill a lot of collectors to see all of my tanks out of the boxes, all lined up in the drawers (including about 6 of the first issue Tigers). I started collecting the Dragon Armor models early this year and my first idea was to get from 60001 to 60010 and except 60001 and 60002 I haven´t payed more than $80 for any of those, being the average price about $50.
I know it sounds strange abot getting the first ten but it was some kind of milestone. In any case and if you like the models my impression is that the 60004 is a work of art!
In any case I recommend always to buy by bidding instead of "buy it now" option, you´ll be able to save some $$
