Review - MRC/Trumpeter 1/72 M113s

Post by Gunner » Thu Aug 03, 2006 1:46 pm

I purchased at least one of each of five of the eight M113s.

I have:

MRC 35002
M113ACAV USMC Danang Vietnam

MRC 35003
M113ACAV 8th Infantry

MRC 35004
M113A1 South Vietnamese

MRC 35005
M113A1 US Army 1969 Vietnam

MRC 35006
M113A2A Com, 3rd Fwd Sup Bat, 1st Brig

I didn't get the Red Cross one (35007) yet, and I won't be getting the two desert versions.

Overall, these are great additions to anyone's 1/72 collection. The details are good, the paint jobs, including the unit markings are great and I'm happy to have them in my collection.

However, the ACAV versions are a disappointment. The side M60 machineguns don't have any barrels at all. I thought maybe it was a defect in the couple that I got until I looked at pictures on various sites (BCA, etc) and theirs were the same way! Admittedly, it's a fixable flaw, but it's still a major flaw, IMHO.

Oh, and what's up with having a gun on the ambulance version? Again, not hard to fix, but not hard to get right, either...

I agree, these are great additions to the 72nd line, and the MG's are an easy fix, as is customizing, thanks in part to a few ESCI/ERTL M113 kits I've got in my stash, not to mention all those 72nd scale figures that were in many of those kits. I believe I've actually got a few of the M901 hammerheads as well, so could easily transplant from that kit as well.

On a similar note, anyone find the 72nd FOV M113's in the US yet?

Squadron mail order has them as well as a bunch being sold on Ebay for about $10 a piece.

Thanks but was asking about the FOV (Forces of Valor), of which I haven't seen on Squadrons site, and am in no hurry as I know they'll eventually show up at local Targets and HS's, just curious as to whether they've been spotted this side of the pond yet.
