New Amercom planes appearing? Epap?

Post by aferguson » Wed Dec 17, 2014 6:14 am

Stumbled on this on Ebay. Seller claims it's Amercom and it looks like their style but with a new design base.

Interesting little model for sure. Anyone heard of new 1/72 Amercoms coming out?

This one is a real surprise, AF. Thanks. I bought one and will report on it when it arrives. Some sleuthing is in order.

I do recall a failed Altaya subscription test in Europe recently that supposedly involved a reincarnation of four planes from the old bi-plane series, including the I-15. This looks very much like a cleaned up version of the I-15 from the old series, with a lighter but harder metal composition and fewer glue spots and other errors.

i wondered that too.....but the stand doesn't look familiar.

For a while i was thinking this might be a re-hash of the Deagostini I-15 and that one is 1/87 scale. The seller has got the scales wrong on a few other listings. But then i saw the ruler in one of his pics and this i-15 is clearly 1/72. Plus the Deag has wheel covers and this one doesn't (correctly) and the Deag has no rigging wires.

It looks pretty good with the weakest points being the windscreen/gunsight combo and the bracing wire that comes out of the middle of the u/c leg instead of at the top of where the leg attaches....both minor points in this scale. The green is a bit bright too and the red too pinkish but that could just be the pics.

I doubt i'll be waiting for your review Epap as i anticipate buying this pretty soon.....a nice little treat for sure.

these little polikarpov models are proving to be popular....10 sold now. I wonder how many are from board membes who saw this post? I guess i should be getting one while the gettin's good. Seller may raise the price since they're selling well.

Just found another new Amercom. 109F-4 in winter finish. I've seen other pics and the colours are better than shown in this listing but still need work. The wings are more light grey than white so would need to be repainted and the underside is the same light grey as the wings, not blue. However, both are fairly easy fixes and for $10 you can get a fairly neat little winter 109F. Has the same new design stand as the Chato.

I like this 109, I'm going to have to order me one, and some more 1/32 kits when taxs come in.
A helicopter does not want to fly, it just vibrates so much that the ground rejects it

ok hold the phone...

this Gemini model implies that the Amercom paint job is correct. What is the point of white washed fuselage and normal coloured wings?

and anyone confirm/comment?

The Amercom BF-109 is, most likely, just a copy of the Gemini version, AF. Whitewashing only the sides was a fairly common practice on the Eastern Front. Here's a link to a picture of a BF-109 with its sides whitewashed, but not the upper wings. The idea was to make the plane less visible to other low flying enemy birds, which, invariably, saw it from one side or the other:
