21st/ New Millenium Toys 1:144 tanks!!
I went to Walmart (reluctantly) and found a display of New Millenium Toys 1:144 tanks!!! Now I had no idea about these.

They were $1.79 each. I (gulp) bought 8-10 of each for possible wargaming. There are 6 different and look pretty neat. I hope they release more in the future. This is what I hoped Axis and Allies would be. They are well detailed and not a blind purchase!! My wife was enthused as usual, hehehehehe......
There's always something new.......

Oh, wargaming, right....I did say it was for possible wargaming you know!!

Anyway, how do these stack up with the Cando tanks at the same scale? I think the Cando ones are about twice as much $ (makes sense) but they are quite nice for the size.
They're a bit less detailed as you would expect. But they still look really good and the price is right for army building...... Compare the $1.79 to $7 for 2 unpainted 10mm tanks.....

Good timing - the online store TheToyFederation is advertising 1:144 scale diorama display bases that have city ruins or various types of natural terrainFoxtrot6 wrote:I just saw these tonight near Baltimore. I bought one of each but want more PzIV, Panther, Tiger, Royal Tiger, vs Sherman, Hellcat.
Not bad at all for 1.79 They would be nice for wargaming and also dioramas.

Scale & size
The size of the KT seems to be too small, the PzIV seems too big, the Hellcat and Sherman too small: based on the Panther in the photo. Are they better in reality?

Copared to my 1/16 Tamiyas the Sherman and TigerII look about right. The PzIV may be big but I think it may just look that way because it has all the aditional armor hanging on the sides.
To bad they didnt camo the Tiger like the rest of the cats. Hope they come out with some halftracks and softskins

I saw them at 2 Wallys in the SF bay area CA. The Milpitas/San Jose store had an endcap with with 2 boxes in a display. I almost missed the endcap even though it was in a obvious spot. I didn't know what to look for. The Union City store had them thrown on the shelf space next to the XD figures/vehicles.

We just recieved a huge number of these little guys in San Antonio. Compared to the Can-Do tanks, they are just slightly under-sized. The difference is not great enough to notice during a war game. I put a large number of Shermans and Hellcats on layaway untill next week. For a $1.79 they are less than half the cost of Can-Do armor and look almost as good.

I'm a legend in my own mind.
They were at APG a week ago.
Sorry for not mentioning it in my last post. I found them at the Aberdeen, MD WalMart last Saturday. Aberdeen is where Abedeen Proving Grounds is, and is right on the East Coast. I'd be guessing, but I think they don't have any problem moving 21st Century tanks off their shelves.
I just got back from Wally World (Wal-mart) and I am happy to say I am very satisfied with the new 1:144 line. I am not a rivet counter so I can’t say exactly…but the detail and size from my perspective is spot on.
I collect Takara, Dragon and Pegasus 1:144 models and of the 3 mfgs, the NMT (21c) offering falls somewhere in between Dragon’s and Takara’s which I was happy about!
Compared with my Takara VC Firefly the NMT M4 is a little bit shorter in length. I don’t know much about Shermans so I think it may have to due with the variant. The VC Firefly has 2-turret hatch openings as opposed to the 1 hatch opening on the NMT M4.
They only had M4 Shermans and M-18 Hellcats at my particular Wal-Mart in Mountain View CA so I can only comment on those.
The M4’s details were done superbly with 2 different brown colored gear bags and painted hand tools. However, the M-18 shovel placed on the rear of the tank was not painted. I don’t know if was purposely done… because I bet it gets awful dirty behind a tank.
Another minor detail I noticed was that the treds were pointed in a different direction than the Takara’s M4’s. But that isn’t a big deal for me. The mold lines are crisp and the level of detail is fantastic for this scale.
As always... it is best to have the pick of the litter and see what you are purchasing. There are always a couple that get past QC.
Hanging plastic on the barrel.
Paint over runs.
I even saw an M-18 in a King Tiger Box.
Looking forward on seeing some of the German Tanks next time.
Happy Hunting!
People always ask me how are you going to display those little guys... Easy, I just mount them in a window box, like the one’s sold at Pottery Barn and hang’em on the wall.

more sightings
there are 2 boxes of the 1/144 tanks on the endcap at the barrett pkwy superwalmart-- I bought all six variations of course, not having any particular need for them whatsoever, but its a 21st/bbi product; right??? You see a new product or interesting repaint of old one and you quickly realize you have no choice except to purchase. You may reach a point where you dont even open the boxes anymore, you just stash them away and the quest continues. to most of us, A/A and N/A meetings seem fodder for a disfunctional family sitcom, but at least there is this site- you are not alone, my brothers........
