is there something wrong with the Hobby Master Essex Avenger?
http://www.flyingmule.com/products/HM-HA1215
I just found one for a pretty good price.....$39 which i think is about $15 or so below the regular retail. Is there some reason it didn't sell as well?
I think it's pretty cool because it's from the Essex and participated in the sinking of the Yamato.

Re: something wrong with the Hobby Master Essex Avenger?
There's nothing wrong with it that I know of. As far as I know the only inaccurate Avenger is the Midway one where they took the later model and painted it a 1942 scheme.
I think what's happened is Hobby Master made a lot of different Avengers.
There also seems to be a lull in the 1:72 market, the economy is not so good, so there's some good deals to be had. I have the Sinking of the Musashi Battle of the Philippine Sea version, which looks a lot like that one with the tri-color scheme. Like to get a solid dark blue one before it's over.
I think that's a reasonable price.

I have the Bunker Hill VT-84 version, which also participated in the sinking of the Yamato (and looks like a tiny version of my 21c 1:18 BH Avenger
). I also have the George Bush Avenger, which is a Hobby Master tooling, but was sold under a Corgi product line several years ago. I want to pick up the regular Hobby Master version of Bush's plane as the paint looks a little better that the Corgi one.
The HM Avenger is a pretty nice, solid tooling. Its one of their early releases that they have continued to produce since at least 2007. You can fit figures in the pilot and radar operator's seats (though not in the turret) and there is no interior in the waist section. All models seem to come with the same pieces: rockets, 500lb bombs, torpedo, and pieces to display the landing gear up or down and the bomb bay doors open or closed. As Dauntless indicated, HM has really milked this tooling over the years offering a ton of repaints.
