Doras, Anyone?

Post by Epap » Wed Feb 27, 2013 6:37 pm

My favorite German fighter of WW2 has always been the FW-190D or "Dora". This underdeveloped extension of the FW-190 more than held its own against swarms of Allied fighters and had it been given time to be fully developed would probably have been a ferocious foe. Lucky us. Oddly only three diecast companies have turned out Doras. The now defunct, C1, put out three schemes in the 1:48th scale while Witty and Dragon tried their hand at it in the 1:72nd scale, along with Easy Model. In Dragon's case, they tried to pretend that their Doras flew with their tail wheels extended, thereby saving a few nickles by not supplying a part for the wheel in the semi retracted mode---the same idiotic stunt was pulled with the Dragon FW-190A series.

Anyway, here are a few of my Doras in the 1:72nd scale. Several are repaints:Image

The three C1 Doras, with lots of mods and a total upper surface repaint for "Yellow 10" are pictured below:Image

Thanks Ed.

Love the Dora, and think it looks and performs better than the A.

Have all three of the fabulous Carousel 1's, and just wish that 21C did a better job with their 1/18 versions. :(
