Forces of Valor Helicopters 1:48 Scale

Post by glebron77 » Sun Jan 15, 2012 10:11 am

Hi I'm new to this board and to collecting diecast models. I have started to collect Forces of Valor 1:48 helicopters and I guess I'm a little confused. From what I can tell they have made the following models:

Vietnam Era:
1) US Army UH-1D Huey (Vietnam, 1968) Model Number 84057

Desert Storm Era:
1) US Army AH-64A Apache (Kuwait, 1991) Model Number 80008
2) US Army UH-60 Black Hawk (Kuwait, 1991) Model Number 80006 (This is the one with the 101st Airborne Division patch on the nose but the box says Baghdad, 2003, but on the back of the box it has this model number associated with the Desert Storm Era??? It also says on the name plate 3rd Inf Division?)
3)US Air Force MH-60G Pave Hawk (Kuwait, 1991) Model Number 84306

Iraqi Freedom Era:
1) US Army AH-64D Apache Longbow (Iraq, 2003) Model Number 84208
2) US Army UH-60L Black Hawk (Baghdad, 2003) Model Number 84206

Unknown Era:
1) US Air Force MH-60 Pave Hawk Model Number 84406

My questions are,
1) Is Forces of Valor not paying attention to their own descriptions of the helicopters?
2) Are there two different Black hawks and Apaches?
3) And are all those model numbers 1:48 scale?

Any information would help me out greatly. Thank you.

George

Hello George,

Just wanted to jump in and confirm there are definetly 2 different Apaches, easily distinguishable as one has a "shark mouth" (UN84208?).

It is possible your black hawk (UN80006) just had the wrong sticker on it from production. This can happen from time to time.

In the UK the only 1:48 obtainable at the moment are:

US Army AH-64A Apache (Kuwait, 1991) Model Number 80008
US Army UH-1D Huey (Vietnam, 1968) Model Number 84057

So I cannot answer your final question with 100% certainty.

Not sure on all the model numbers, however, I believe you named all the 1:48 FOV helicoper variants that have been made. I get confused as to which Blackhawk is which (save for the Pavehawk with its distinctive cammo), but I believe the Iraqi Freedom has darker green cammo than the Desert Storm version. All use the same tooling, which is nice with the crew figures, gunners, opening doors, and opening engine.

It is very easy to distinguish the two Apaches. The "Desert Storm" version is the older tooling, designed as an AH-64A, and has crappy inaccurate opening canopy - the whole side opens. I think the engines open. Its also in the ligheer green cammo. The "Iraqi Freedom" Apache, an AH-64D Longbow, is really a nice tooling. It is a new tooling, different from the AH-64A. Details and panel lines are better, it has opening engines and the cockpit opens correctly with the two doors.

I can't say much about the Huey as I have yet to get one, but from picture's I've seen, its detail (especially with the interior, etc) should be comparable to the AH-64D.

*UPDATE*

I just got all my FoV Helicopters 1:48 models.

80006 - UH-60 Blackhawk US Army, 101st Airborne Division, 1991 Kuwait (Light Green)
80008 - AH-64A Apache US Army, 1st Air Cav Division, 1991 Kuwait (Light Green)
84057 - UH-1D Huey US Army, Vietnam 1968
84206 - UH-60L Blackhawk US Army, 3rd ID, 2003 Baghdad (Dark Green)
84208 - AH-64D Apache Longbow US Army, 3rd ID, 2003 Baghdad (Dark Green) My model has Shark Teeth on the front
84306 - MH-60G Pavehawk USAF, 505th SOS, 1991 (Tan and Brown)
84406 - MH-60G Pavehawk USAF, Eglin Air Field, 1991 (Green and Tan)

I am almost finished taking all the photos. I am working on 1:72 models now. Obviously helicopters. :D

I just purchased the AH-1Z USMC Cobra...waiting for that to come in. I am almost complete with my Corgi 1:48 Helicopter collection. Just missing a few.

Thanks for the help.

George
