review of the PanzerStahl Sd.Kfz.234 series

Post by the_bird » Thu May 05, 2011 2:18 pm

I just received the new Panzerstahl Sd.Kfz.234/3 (88016) & Sd.Kfz.234/1 (88012) from a fellow forum member.
I’m very impressed with the paint and details are great. they keep getting better I feel they have surpassed HM armored car series with these 2 pieces. The paint scheme is what I like best very realistic and well done. I’m no expert on these vehicles as many here so maybe someone can tell me how accurate the markings are? Nice. I have 1 of HM puma and 1 panzerstahl puma. I only have HM's 234/3, and it is just basic yellow though. The 234/1 looks good though.

Does the turret rotate? Can you see anyway you could make it rotate if it doesn't?

Is it glued down? Molded to the superstructure? I would only consider getting this if there is a solution that would allow the turret to rotate. If not, I'm waiting for HM!

It looks separate, which makes it kind of bizarre to me that it doesn't rotate.

I was disappointed that the turret and wheels don't move.
The wheels I can live with but IMHO at that price the turret should move.

Frankly I expected more from a German company based on the quality of the antennas and detail but I assumed wrong. I should have noticed they did identify when the turret moved on the Marder 1 A3, so as always it's buyer beware and I should have read the description carefully. I wonder what happened to their pre-orders and sales once it was known. I cancelled my future pre-orders for duplicates as I wanted them for diorama purposes.

I inspected the undercarriage and I don't see how it could be easily taken apart to make the
turret move but maybe someone will take up the challenge.

I have one of panzerstahl puma as well. The turret seens to be molded into the superstructure. If you want a puma that has a rotating turret and rolling wheels, HM made one not long ago for about 20 bucks. I bought both, and they both look good.

I waited for the Panzerstahl because of their aerials so I'll have to wait for HM to release another version otherwise its e-bay I think.

For me PS 234s present themselves better than HMs.
