M-41 Walker Bulldog Light Tank

I cannot find any history about this tank other than the fact it never saw combat under the white star of the U.S.A.,forces. On the box of my 1:18 "Winter" version,it says Vietnam. They never used this tank in 'nam. It was too lightly armored for combat use. This was slated for Korea was'nt it ?

I think it saw very little action at the end of Korea, but it probably saw a lot in the "Godzilla" movies...

Yeah I know, especially in the old "Combat" series and also used in the movie "Patton" itself !

The M-41 was used by the Vietnamese in place of the larger M-48. In one reference, they stated it was because of the size of the average Vietnamese. For actual pictures, check the Concord paperback armor series. I think it is titled Title #7007 ARMOR OF THE VIETNAM WAR: (1) ALLIED FORCES.

there are unconfirmed reports that two bulldogs were sent to Korea for evaluation right at the end of the conflict but no photographic evidence exists, or any other solid evidence of this. At any rate, whitewash winter camo was not used in Korea...at least not to any significant extent.

Aside from the above mentioned S. Vietnamese army use of the tank, the only other combat it saw was during the Lebanese civil war, especially in Beirut. Both sides used it to an extent. The 'winter' finish on the 21c bulldog does sort of look like a heavy coating of sand to me.

They were also stationed in the arctic, by the US and painted white there, but saw no combat of course....but it would be the most logical use for the 'winter' bulldog.

Many Bulldogs were used as targets on gunnery ranges and for testing new anti tank weapons.

If you want to do something with the M-41 You can build a Duster out of it.
The twin barreled 40mm weapons system was built on the M-41 and saw lots of fighting in both Korea and Vietnam.

That's cool, but I don't think I'll go that far with it, "kit-bashing" that is. I'm going to leave it just the way it is................Again, I want to thank everybody and "aferguson" for his insight as well. "For target practice". I just had to laugh, but it's a fact.
