Airstrike 1/72 Modern Carrier Deck dio...??

Post by ostketten » Sun Oct 17, 2010 7:43 am

I found an old thread from a Diecast Aircraft forum with pics of a 1/72 scale US Navy Modern Carrier Deck dio base. It is (or was) made by Airstrike Toys, I know Airstrike is now OOB, but I was wondering if anyone here might know where I could find one for sale. I get the impression these didn't get to full blown production, or at least they didn't make very many of em' as I can't find one at any of the usual sources, ie. ebay, Squadron, Great Models, etc. It's a nicely detailed piece that would make an excellent display base for Century Wings aircraft, so if any of you guys have suggestions where I might find one it would be greatly appreciated. 8)

Wish I could help, ostketten.

I would also be interested in one of these by Airstrike.

Verlinden do a very nice flight deck, but you have to paint some of it.

And I think HM did one of these flightdeck dioramas. And you wouldn't have to paint the HM one.

Thanks Jack, I was vaguely aware of the Verlinden one, and I may have to go that route if I can't find the Airstrike. I've seen the HM one, I think Aiken's still carries them, IIRC they are a bit small and "plasticky" looking, but I'll take another look. I know some of our members had dealings with Airstrike before they went belly up, and I was hoping some of them might see this thread and chime in. I believe Dragon made one also, it could be purchased alone, or with selected planes I think, and was constructed of heavy duty cardboard apparently. These seem to be completely "missing in action" as well.... :(

Looks like you are pretty up to speed on these Scott. :D

I have seen the Dragon version on Ebay before, so they are available. But only come with a specific plane. Your link showed "Bounty Hunters". I think that was the only one.

Anyway, these carrier deck diorama's would be a great way to display modern naval aircraft. 8)

Scale wise...??

I admit I'm no expert on the subject, but in general it appears to be a reasonable rendition of the No. 2 Cat & Blast Deflector on a Nimitz (CVN-68) class carrier, at least in terms of the layout and markings, though it does look a bit cramped. Anyhow, it's kind of a moot point since these seem to be about as easy to find as the Shroud of Turin...
