1/32 Diecast F-8 Crusader??

Post by pcoughran » Thu Oct 14, 2010 12:52 pm

I was in the hobby shop today and there was what appeared to be a 1/32 scale diecast F-8 Crusader in the glass display case. It got my attention because it was a beautiful model with lots of detail. I figured I'd look it up on the internet when I got home but can't find anything on a 1/32 diecast F-8. There was no price or description on it in the display.
Is there such an item? It looked a lot like a Century Wings 1/72 except large.
Could I have been mistaken and it was an extremely well built up 1/32 Kit?? I thought I looked at it close enough to determine it wasn't plastic, but maybe not?
Thanks.

Doubt it was diecast, I think we would have heard about this. Why not call the hobbyshop and ask them?

I did call - it's a built up kit. Wow, it was nice enough that it looked like diecast, maybe it was not weathered like usual built up kits are so it had that factory look that all the 1/72 diecast has.
Anyway, thought it would have looked real nice next to my 1/32 BBI F-4 and 1/32 4D Vision F14.
Sorry for the mistake.

A 1/32 diecast F-8 would be really cool nevertheless, although probably on the pricey side. I think a diecast 1/32 F-8 would be a tough sell though, as the Century Wings 1/72 Crusader is a great looking bird, but it wasn't one of their best sellers IIRC. It's a shame too because IMO the Crusader is a fine looking model, and many people don't realize that the F-8 Crusader had the highest kill ratio of any US fighter in the Vietnam war. For collectors, I think the F-8 just didn't have the appeal, ie. the "flash and glamor" of the better known F-4 Phantom. Imagine this in 1/32 diecast.... it would be awesome....
