Marushin, never agin!

Post by zzzippper » Mon Aug 09, 2010 3:02 am

I was excited to get my first Marushin model, a 1:48 Hien (Tony). Probably my favorite of all Japanese fighters. What an absolute piece of crap! The control panel won't stay in, the horizontal stabs won't stay in, the 3-piece canopy doesn't match up...but that doesn't matter since it won't stay on. All of this could be fixed and possibly tolerated (though the canopy will never look right) but the paint job is the worst I've ever seen. The markings on the top of the wing are blurred at the edges and indistinct. Worst of all there is yellow overspray from the leading edge of the wings into the landing gear wells.

For $128 I expected much, much more. If anyone wants to come to Korea they can have it for free. It's certainly not worth the money to mail it anywhere.

Sorry to hear you received such a poor model from Marushin, I have (had, I sold some off) over 20 at one time and most were very nice models. I seem to remember that I did have a problem with the horizontal stabs being loose, but I superglued them in and it solved that problem.

If you really don't want it, I'll take it off your hands..

The Marushin models can be a pain to assemble and their canopies simply must be glued on to stay in place. Despite the praise heaped upon them---due, in part, to the fact that they are the only diecast option for such models in the 1:48th scale--- the Marushins offer zero cockpit detail and their panel lines are, in some cases, minimal. After buying eight of them, I finally swore off and am using plastic kits to fill out my Japanese 1:48th scale fighter collection.

I didn't think Marsu planes were over a 100 a pop.

I verified the price, got it from Flying Mule. Though I don't hold FM responsibile for such a POS I wonder why they would carry something like that.

Sorry to hear about your Marushin experience, zzzipper.

I don't think that is common response.

Most forum members seem to really like them, but a lot of dissension about the actual quality. Some complain about the obvious lack of cockpit detail.Others about the fit. Some about everything.

But they do have a faithful following.

Heck, otherwise you wouldn't have spent $100 on it.

I bought one from hworth, and while I haven't put it together,it looks about what I expected. But again, I haven't tried assembly.

If you are that unhappy with it, why not try returning it. Or selling.Enough Marushin fans to take it off your hands.

I will probably fix this POS up as best I can and give it to my best Korean buddy Chin Su. He loves action figure models but since his family is single income with 1.5 children he can't spend like I do. He goes into the Terminator type stuff but I'm trying to get him into military models. I gave him a free Mule Pack that I got of Battle of Britain (Spit, Hurri, and Lancaster) and he loved them. I guess he'll get a Tony next.
