Corgi 1/144 scale B-52 model.

Post by skyraider » Sat Aug 07, 2010 9:43 pm

I am looking to get a model of a B-52, and I see Corgi makes some in 1/144 scale. Any of you guys have one of these models? I was wondering what you think of them, they look nice in the pictures I see. Thanks.

Haven't seen it, but I've been thinking of starting a 1/144 Bomber collection. There seems to be more in that scale than anything else, plastic and diecast, and I can't afford the 1/72 Corgis.

SKYRAIDER:

I bought three Corgi 1/144 B-52s on ebay a few months ago:

1. Diamond Lil--$77
2. Duxford Museum--$47
3. Minot AFB (blue paint)--$56

For the prices I paid for them, they're pretty good models. Like many Corgis, they lack crisp, detailed styling found on Hobby Master, etc.
The canopy frames are not painted, no antennae, the noses appear to be a little misshapen, Diamond Lil doesn't have mission markings and there is a gap between the nose sensor pods and the fuselage on the Minot B-52.
From a couple of feet away, the Corgi B-52s, especially the Vietnam ones, look pretty impressive---and they have tiny little pilots (JSI: TAKE NOTICE!!!).

I also picked up three of these a couple of months ago, when there was a big sell of due to a dealer going out of business in Oregon.

Like drogon, I picked up Diamond Lil, Duxford, but went with the X-15 carrying version.

I think that they are pretty good, with Diamond Lil being my favourite.

And fairly large, considering they are 1/144.

Some minor issues, but if you can get one for a decent price,I say go for it.

I have Diamond 'Lil and, even though it's not a perfect replica, I'd recommend it over the SEA camo version which used very unrealistic greens and tans.
