1/72 German Airfield Dio...

Post by ostketten » Sat Jul 17, 2010 12:45 pm

Hey guys, I put together this quick & easy "dio" just to showcase a couple of the most recent additions to my 1/72 scale collection...

At an aerodrome somewhere in Germany circa late 1944, an Me-262A "White 8" of Jagdgeschwader "Nowotny" awaits re-arming and re-fueling before it's next combat sortie, with a Flakpanzer IV "Wirbelwind" nearby providing low-level air defense against marauding allied fighter bombers, which were a constant threat at this stage of the war....

The dio base was made using Verlinden airfield tarmack sheets mounted in a $5 picture frame from WM, they are completely stock except for a light coat of dulling spray, because they had a little bit of a "glossy" sheen to them in certain lighting conditions & viewing angles. The aircraft is an MRC/Easy Model Me-262A, completely stock except for a set of Aeromaster Swastikas applied to the vertical tail. The Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind is one of the new Panzerstahl models that has been discussed in another thread recently. The Me-262 ran me about $8 delivered, and the Flakpanzer IV set me back about $19 including delivery. I'm very pleased with both, and the Me-262 especially represents an outstanding value for the money IMO. Hope you guys enjoy the pics.... 8) Click thumbnail images to enlarge....

you need the Preiser 1/72 Airfield diorama kit(german WWII airfield)

it's got a hanger big enough for a Ju52 plane IIRC. I have a pic of the kit in the box on a CD..I'll photobucket it later.

Cool beans... 8) I'll definitely have to check that out, and I'm looking forward to seeing the Pic. Where might I find one of these Preiser Airfield dio kits...??

that's overpriced...but the only kit I found changing hands at the moment, I picked up one about 3 years ago for 40 complete(which is 2 buildings, a shed/garage on the side and the main hanger.

It's standard Preiser injection. Good detail. Not sure how large it is, as I sold mine at a wargaming convention(ReCon) for 50-55 IIRC plus some 20mm minis.

Overall I've seen 10 or so, with prices from 25-200 in the last 5 years...it's just a crap shoot trying to find one, kinda like the pre-painted 1/72 Preiser Military sets(normally 5 figures pre-built/painted, last I saw was tropical LW set of 5)
