Why doesn't anyone produce 1/32 modern jets

Post by DocTodd » Sat Feb 27, 2010 9:01 pm

I can't really figure out why someone hasn't started producing 1/32 modern jets. I realize the f-4 is out there and that f-14 cutaway model. But why isn't someone churning out F-16, F-18, A-10, even SEPECAT Jaguar, Mig 29, Saab Viggen-there are endless opportunities and judging from the price of the trumpeter models in 1/32 the price of pre-made models would be less. It sure seems like an untapped market. Anyone want to go in together and start a line.

No one is doing it because no one wants to buy those planes. All anyone wants is a different paint scheme on a P-51. Everyone knows that history and technology ceased in 1945. Now please go admire your Shermans, Tigers, and P-51's, and leave it to the manufacturers to determine which P-51 you want next.

Great point DocTodd.

I have both the 4D F-14,and BBI F-4.
This scale works well for me.

But for the "mass market" I think this scale is just to big for a lot of collectors.[Even though this is a 1/18 type forum]

The 1/32 single engine,WWII propeller fighter even has some trouble with its worldwide fanbase.

To sell a particular jet in 1/32,the buyer has to be a big fan of that jet.
And it would seem that most "worldwide" collectors go for 1/72,or 1/48.
Outside of North America, the price of a 1/18 plane is very expensive.

Personally I am a big fan of 1/32,and would like to see more produced.

But it is more of a niche market, and the jets in this scale just haven't caught on with the buyers.

Even though,I love mine.

Well, as long as it is either silver or OD and with a shark mouth or checkerboards, I don't care which one they do next! I would even be okay with D-Day stripes...or not.

Well they started to with BBI's F-4 Phantom, and that was the end of it.

While more of a fan of WWII, I still would buy 1:32 modern aircraft, or post war. Yes quite tired of just P-51's and Shermans. It's like they were the only ones that won the war.

Still waiting for some 1:32 Helecopters, Sabre's, Migs, Skyraider's, all kinds of cool stuff that hasn't been made. That includes many WWII aircraft. Multi engine airplanes etc.

Nobodies putting out anything in the way of aircraft, except modeling companies :?

Plenty of armor though. Lots of German stuff they don't have to pay anybody royalties to.
