ltcbj Dinosaurs

Post by vaindioux » Sat Apr 25, 2009 11:08 am

ltcbj

I have been looking to start collecting dinosaurs again. I am 42 now but my dad used to buy them for me when I was a young boy, I had a bunch of them.
I didn't know about Pappo, I have been looking at :

X-PLUS PREHISTORIC
schleich
Kaiyodo
THE CARNEGIE SAFARI LTD

I would like the most extensive collection possible but I like scales to match, can you give me your input?

Thanks a lot

Patrick

I collected 1/72 planes back in the 60s when you had to build them yourself. My real interest was armor anyway and when Tamiya began producing heavily I really got into the 1/35.... for a while. I quit when my hand-eye(sight) coordination began to get blurred out (cataracts) making model making difficult and micro-armor just little lumps of lead. And 21stC began presenting as well.

I also collected 1/1200 ships (many years ago before collecting 1/285 armor) and more recently but no longer 1/2400 and 1/4800 scale ships.

I am no longer collecting the 1/32 tanks but still have 1/48 (go well with Spave Marines), 1/72 and 1/144 (and a few thousand) 1/285s (left).

If I collected plants I'd have a field of dead stalks. My wife tells me that NetFlix covers any DVD collecting I might consider.

I collect a few different things along with the 1/18 AC

Other item that I collect are.......
antique quilts
A&W Root Beer mugs and stuff
1/18 diecast cars

I got started on the quilts because I had a neighbor that was an antique dealer and he always had these really cool quilts around his house. So I talked to him about buying some and now I have about 1/2 dozen now.

A&W... I started collecting in high school but haven't gotten anything for over 15 years.

1/18 diecast cars I have about a dozen or so now. One that I am waiting for is scheduled to arrive mid month. It's 32 coupe which is due in around May 15th, it is a GMP diecast (which is very detailed). The blue coupe is only 1 of 350 made. The picture is from the GMP website, but the other cars in my photo album are in my office at work.

Other collectings and hobbies:

I used to collect a lot of pressed steel Tonka's, Buddy L's, Nylint, Structo from mostly the 50's.

When I worked as a painter in an auto body shop I restored some of them. Don't have much time for that anymore, but I've got some really nice original pieces like a 59' Ladder Truck, 56' Green Giant Semi, 59' Thunderbird Semi, early 60's Grader and Dragline, a really nice 55' Buddy L Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Carrier in OD green.
Lots of others, some need restoration though.

Got a 74' Mustang II Fastback I'm restoring slowly. Going to modernize the wheels for a more updated stance, and put some more Cobra parts on it. It's in really good shape to start with so I'm not too much over my head.

I've got some experience spraying and matching paint, now if I could just transfer that talent over to modeling, or at least some XD.

I have a "few" 1/18 diecast (more than I would admit to).
Here are 6 of my 14 Ikea Billy display cases. Actually, I collect just about anything 1/18.
