FOV 1/72 AVAILABLE IN THE UK

I was in a model shop in central London (Modelzone) this evening, which had just received a stock of the first releases in the FOV1/72 range. A Churchill, Sherman with mine rollers, a T-72 and M1 Abrams.

I was impressed. The detail is not as sharp as Dragon. For example the tow ropes on the Sherman are moulded on to the hull rather than separate components as on Dragon models. On the T-72 there is a gap between mantlet and turret when the barrel is depressed. They are weathered and painted in a manner similar to their bigger brothers, which might not appeal to some. They come with crew figures, which really add to a model AFV, in my opinion. I hope Dragon follow suit. They also come with radio antenna. I was a bit surprised because each one ends in a very small loop. This I expect is to prevent more junior purchasers from poking their eyes out! However it looks as if it could be fairly easily cut off. The M1 and T-72 seem to be exact replicas of their larger FOV counterparts. They were selling for £7.99, about the same as most of the Dragon models.

I liked them. It’s nice to see allied armour at last and I expect hell will have frozen over before Dragon get round to a Churchill. The mine roller model is inspired. Whether it can be separated from the Sherman I leave to braver souls to investigate. Well-done FOV, particularly for not releasing a panzer! It will be interesting to see if it has any effect on Dragon. I doubt it, as most collectors will purchase both ranges. I did!

The shop had also received a number of FOV1/32 in new paint schemes (see separate posting).

Here's a couple of pics of the Sherman and the Churchill. I've taken the photos still partly in the packaging as, unlike Dragon's 1/70 range, you cant get them out easily without destroying the box.

Thanks for the pics Eazy, if you get the time, could you post a few more angles? I'd like to see more if possible.

Also, have you seen or picked up the figure packs yet? I'd like to see those too...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

I don't have any other angle pics of the tanks at the moment. Its difficult to remove them fully without completely destroying the packaging. I wish they were packaged a bit more like Dragon Armor.

You know i like these figures the more i look at them especially the guy with the bandaged head and the soldier holding onto his helmet. Great poses.

This is a line that deserves supporting, with a few improvements in the future we might see some really interesting and affordable die cast figures.
