Post by CW4USARMY » Wed Jul 09, 2008 6:52 am

Finally took my BBi Phantom out of the box last night but one of the wing tips doesnt want to latch properly in the folded down position. Anybody out there have this problem and a fix?

I have a similar one and have just learned to live with it. :?

It doesn't look that bad if you don't know what you are looking for. 8)

They "snap" down into the slightly angled position. It takes a bit of effort to get them to finally give. Once they are loose, you have to push the tip "inboard" to get them to lock into the down position...

Everytime I would manipulate the wing tips, it felt like I was breaking them...

Yeah, everytime you snap them into place or out, it feels like it will be the last time. It's painful. Worse than snapping the gear in on the 109G. :)

Is this what you're saying?..... In order to lock the wingtips in the Flying position (wingtips angled up slightly), you have to do the following?

1. Pull the wingtips out and position them in the Flying position.
2. Then, push the wingtips in towards the fuselage until it locks into place.

If this is right, there shouldn't be a visible gap between the inner wing and the wingtip so the hinge can't be seen?

That sounds about right. I dont recall pulling them out before bending them down, but that may the answer to the horrible snapping sensation when I do it on miy F4.

Ooh yes those 109 gears. Also the Fw`s with their spindley legs...

KRIEGLOK:

My BBI F-4J's wingtips seem to lock in the airborne position at an angle that's too high. I've looked at several photos of real F-4s from the front position and the wingtips are angled upwards, but not as high as BBI's.
I noticed that Badcat's photos of the BBI F-4J are also too high---at least they appear too high to me.
Does anyone else think this is a problem?

Yes, and one of them locks at a greater angle than the other. I have learned to overlook that on what is really a stellar piece the have put out.

OLIFANT:

Yes, I have the same problem---on my F-4J, the left wings locks at a higher angle than the left. This is why I hate folding wings that don't fold correctly and movable flaps that droop.

I never noticed the angle in the deployed postion, but the one side does droop a little. Something with the hinge not holding it tight.

I would suppose that any model of the F4 may depict a difference in wing tip angle. It is a factor when they make them. The only way to know for sure would be to find out the angle of a real F4 and see if the model matches it or is close to it.
