Very glad to see 21c tackle the Spitfire in 1/32. Its about time we get a decent, affordable, Spitfire in 1:32. (The Corgi ones are amazing, but way out of my price range ).
Also, I am VERY GLAD it is an early mark of the Spitfire, very glad! The FOV Spitfire is a later model and I would hate to have duplication for the sake of duplication.
Good going, 21c, and I hope to find the plane in stores soon enough!

Just about every Spit put out by what ever company in what ever form always seems to be an early or BoB Spit. The FOV IX was a POS and there are plenty of marks mid to late war that they could have done.tmanthegreat wrote:Also, I am VERY GLAD it is an early mark of the Spitfire, very glad! Don't speak bad about the FOV Spit you sold me, I like it and got a good deal on it! I'm happy with it!
I honestly do not feel the FOV Spit is all that bad, with the exception of the bombs it came with which look kind of funky. To me it's a decent enough looking airplane. I've seen plenty of bad renderings of Spitfires over the years.
Glad to see 21c did a Spitfire. However, I have always been more partial to the Hurricane. I love the Hurricane. But the Spitfire is the obivious choice given its famous history.
What's really odd is that 21st went out on a limb and did the Italian Stuka and Macchi dogfight pack which was very unusual. But other products are so usual such as the revamped P-51 and now a Spitfire.
I'd love to see them drop a real unusual plane out there for once. Maybe as an online exclusive.
That Spitfire does look nice though!

Weird paint scheme but it does look nice. I'll be waiting for a Battle of Britain scheme, and hopefully we'll get a few from that time frame so we don't have to rely on a black/white underside like on the 1/18 one. I wonder if they're going to do the Borough of Lambeth scheme again, but for 1/32 (and if that's even the 1/18 version on the box). It does need a radio mast though, maybe it's just not on the prototype. Hope this model has the machine gun holes properly lined up this time as well
I really want an AL Deere paint scheme, since I made that model when I was a kid. I like the kiwi and black nose:

Guess I wouldn't need a radio mast if they made that one...

I must say that 21C has really cranked 1/32 into overdrive. In the last twelve months we have gotten some really good releases with more to come. I smell a T-34(41) and P-38 coming soon to a WM near us!

I'm glad you like the FOV Spit, I just couldn't warm up to it.Coreyeagle48 wrote:Rows:

All in all I am glad we will have a 32x Spitfire. Sure it would have been awesome to see the Typhoon or Hurricane I was hoping for, but I guess having an easily recognizable aircraft on the shelf is good for 21st and if that is the case and it gets more people to pick one up and makes them more money to develop more "unusual" models then so be it.
The sad part is, I wonder how many people can actually recognize a Spitfire? On an ignorance related note, some kid was looking at a FW190D at TRU yesterday and his mom ripped the thing out of his hands and yelled, "we don't play with Nazi toys!!" My eyes couldn't have rolled back further without something snapping. I had to bite my tongue so hard it will take a week to heal.
That reminds me, where the hell is my new FW190 and P-51D!

Like this one for instance:

Well, if 21C put out (3) variants of the BF-109, FW-190 and the P-51, I'm sure they'll make other Mk. variants....
There just better be a Don Gentile & Pierre Clostermann variants

"We don't play with Nazi toys!" - said the Spifire Mk IXe Squadron Leader over the R/T. - "Over!"
The FW-190D pilot's eyes couldn't have rolled back further without something snapping. He had to bite his tongue so hard it will take a week to heal. He couldn't say anything and he couldn't see anything. He thought only: "Fuer Vaterland!" and started to shot.
The Spitfire pilot fired, too: "I got him! I got him! I got him! That reminds me, where the hell is my new FW-190. Over!"
Rowsdower, I hope you forgive me the citations.

The upside is at least one Mom can put two and two together and know:
1) the plane is German
2) It is from WWII and
3) Germany was run by Nazis during this time period
Thank God for the History Channel and men who won't let women have the remotes during "Dogfight!"
This is progress Gents!

Yes, that does seem to be some pretty good ID skills for an aparent non-specialist. The History Channel may be a good guess on the influence, but there's probably other factors at work as well. Still, the irony.olifant wrote:The upside is at least one Mom can put two and two together and know:

Too bad you don't have her address - we could all pitch in a little money to send her one of the SS action figure sets from SmallJoes, saying its for the little guy who has suddenly taken an interest into all things German

This is from Roy Sutherland from the Hyperscale forum... He is refering to the 1/32 disassembeled model kit, but it might shed some light on to what other pre-built spitfire variants they will offer in the future.
Hi Guys,
The announcement I mentioned a few days ago of a new aircraft in our 1/32nd line has now officially been made.
There are images up on the 21C website showing a pre-production sample. Colors and some details are not final, so you might want to reserve judgement until it hits the shelves.
A few particulars on this new Spitfire.
3 variants will be released:
Spitfire Mk. I/II
Spitfire Mk. Vb
and probably most interesting for us Spitfire aficionados...
Spitfire Mk. Vc
Finer panel lines than on our earlier aircraft.
No screw holes on wing and fuselage.
Alternate lower cowls
Alternate wingtips
Accurate closed in cockpit sidewalls and floor
Alternate canopies
Correct wing planform.
While probably not the last word in 1/32nd Spitfire model kits, it is will certainly be a very buildable, reasonably accurate, and cheap model. Offering options never kitted before, I think this should be a popular series of kits with modelers.
The unssembled, unpainted model kit version will be released in spring/summer 2008. Do not try to preorder the model kit version from anyone yet. It is too early still. I will keep you informed as to progress on this new release.
Happy modeling! Roy
