question on an Opel Blitz Flak

Post by metalwar » Wed Jan 23, 2008 8:54 am

Could a quad mounted Flak gun (such as the one that came in the 21st Channel Watch playset) have been mounted on a Blitz or Maultier or would it have been to heavy. I am asking as I have contemplated bashing the gun with the Blitz.

I believe it would have been to heavy for both the opel and maultier chassis. Here a pic showing a Maultier with a 2cm Flak 38.

From my own research (and a few quick checks I just did) the FlaK 38 was probably too heavy to be mounted on a medium truck like the Opel Blitz or a Maultier. At 1509kg (3327lb) it would have been a bit much for either vehicle to carry - on the other hand, it could have been towed easily enough.

The heaviest AA gun you'd see mounted on a medium truck in the Heer is the 20mm FlaK 30 as far as I can remember.

no Flakvierling or 3.7cm FlaK 36/43s on the 3t chassis

The FlaK 30 or FlaK 38 could work and were used.

Darn, so my little custom was inaccurate :? Actually, I knew that when I started the project, but the results still looked cool. The gun mount has since broken off, however, and I haven't repaired it...

When I said FlaK 38 I was referring to the flakvierling variant, not the single gun

Thanks for bringing this up guys. It inspired me to post pictures of the 1:18 Flak 38 Truck and Maultier I did a while back.

There was a discussion on this very topic on a good modeling site a few days ago: http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/th ... Opel+Blitz

Thanks EA, that surely answers the question in general. Be nice if that guy could find his photos of it on a 3 ton, but seeing on a truck in general is worth a thousand posts so they say.. :D
