FOV NEW 1/32 - CHALLENGER II, WIRBELWIND & M3 HALF-TRACK

Post by graycap » Sun Oct 02, 2005 4:27 am

I discovered the above in a Model Zone shop in Central London yesterday. All looked very nice. They also had the Grant, which I believe has been available in the US for some time.

The 20mm flak mounting on the Wirblewind is a separate unit and comes with two crew members and looks very nice. Its in the markings of a SS heavy tank battalion in Normandy in 1944. Actually I thought the Flak platoons of these units were equipped with half-track mounted weapons. The German 251 half track when it came out last year had some infantrymen in various action poses, but the US M3 only comes with one - a standing .50 cal machine gunner. The Challenger looks most impressive - about as big as the Abrams and is in Basra 2003 markings.

So, one way or another on both sides of the Atlantic I think all the new FOV 1/32 armour releases and most of this years repaints are out. Over here we are still waiting for the last four 1/72 releases - Bradley, Challenger, Tiger I and Tiger II.

The assistants I was talking with in Model Zone seemed to have some doubt whether their chain would stock the FOV 1/72 and 1/32 aircraft ranges. Any other Uk members of the board got any further information on this one?

Lucky you! Wish I was back in the UK at the moment - but for more reasons than just being able to get the FOV 1:32 Challenger II! I remember back when I was studying in Kingston-upon-Thames around March of 2003 seeing Challengers all over the BBC news as your country (and mine) trounced the Iraqi Republican Guard. Thats sort of why I want to get one, but they'll be here soon enough!

Challenger is now deleted, this morning I received one of the last specimens, it's a heavy monster, longer and broader than the M1 Abrams : Image Image

I think my FOV 1/32 Challenger is either my favorite or at least top five favorite of all my models. It does not get discussed very much but I would urge everyone here to pick one up if they have not already. It beats the Abrams hands down in quality and detail. Nice find.
