New D model Mustang Miss Bonny

Post by olifant » Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:08 pm

I found the new S1 Miss Bonny P-51D at WM earlier this week and almost did not buy the thing because it has such a garish paint scheme. With rare self control I waited a few days to open it and am trying to decide if I like it or not.

It is a really loud paint job and although quality is vastly improved over the old D model, I think I prefer the B/C releases better. At the same time it is an eye catcher and hell, it is another plane to hang up.

Any thoughts about this from other's who have one? I am not sure if this was the best use of 21C resources. At the same time a new Jug at some point would be appreciated, especially if they follow the Mustang's lead and do a razorback/bubbletop split. Of course my desperate dream is they will move towards small twin engine planes!

Should we start a P-38 hunger strike?

Rows, I'm in Maine, you're in Florida. I'm convinced that the 21st Century Toys delivery trucks break down the instant they cross into the Eastern time zone.
    Either that or the horses finally wear out. Maybe it's those dag-burn injuns! :P

Haven't seen any of the new P-51Ds in my area either. I'm sure they'll be "Miss Bonnie" when they show up and I agree with Olifant that it is a very garish paintscheme. Certainly not one of my favorites and there were so many better ones that could have been done. The P-51B/Cs were exactly the opposite with all the schemes being great, in my opinion. I intend to pass on "Miss Bonnie" for the checkered version and the RAF version. I hope to see some better schemes with future releases of the P-51D. Its not like there's a shortage of schemes for 21c to choose from

UPDATE

After one week I have decided this bird has grown on me. I have grown used to the way it stands out in the pack and would urge anyone that felt reservation after reading this post to disregard my other comments.

My neighbor has plastic flamingos on his lawn. I used to hate them but it kind of goes with his outdoor hula Tiki get up. This Mustang kind of hits me the same way.

That isn't quite a ringing endorsement, is it! :D

For the price at WM I think I'd still pick one up, who knows down the road you may become a totally rabid collector  and it's better to pay $15 + tax now then $??? + shipping on ebay later...

Plus pretty much all the stuff has shown to be a good investment, noticed what the CIA Huey's have brought lately on ebay, couldn't giv'em away a few years ago. :D

I really would like to see this garish paint scheme.
I can't see it either. I even tried pulling the url out of the page source code but that didn't work.

Is it just me or do the wheels/tires look a little bit wider than those on the B/C models? Might just be the perspective, but it would be a lot better than the current pizza cutters!

That would be awesome! Those wobbly little wheels/tires were thr only real problem I had with the otherwise excellent B/C models. Can't wait to get my hands on a D model!

Yeah that one is sweet, especially since I never got my hands on the Polish squadron P-51B!
