Newray 1/32 Armor

Post by vmf214 » Tue Jan 01, 2008 7:30 pm

Hit the local hobby shop yesterday on the way home and found Newray is making armor kits now same as the aircraft kits, snap/screw together and prepainted. There are 4 in the series, M3A3 halftrack, M16 halftrack, M4A3 Sherman, and M3 Lee. Pretty decent details and even some light weathering. At $6.99 a pop couldn't resist. Great inexpensive foundation for customs.

Anyone have any pics?? I have seen one Sherman that looks like one of their old ones with stickers all over it. It looks crappy. Are they making nicer ones now? I have an old Newray M3 Lee and I think it is just junk.

The kits I picked up don't have stickers, all the insignia appears to be painted on as some of them you can see where a little overspray creeped under the mask.

At that price it might be cool to make a knocked-out tank out of one.

Yeah, that looks much nicer than the older stuff they were putting out a few years ago. How do they compare size wise to 21st and FOV? My old M3 Lee was actually under scale compared to FOV and 21st. (I know 21st doesn't make a Lee but as the Lee was built on the Sherman chassis (or vice versa), I compared it to the Sherman and it is really small. I noticed they are still selling that one. I wonder if they scaled their Sherman off of that size or up scaled it to more accurately match 1/32. I'd have to say the M3 I have is about 1/35 or maybe even smaller. The one I have is the non motorized version BTW.

Half-track too: there are two seats in the "cockpit", and one behind the quadruple machine-gun, but the sitted figures of 21C don't contain there...

Yeah I've been wanting to do that for a while. I planned on using the old neon green FOV Sherman but I've been using it as a guinea pig for weathering techniques.
