I respectfully disagree with those who say the price is ok. The comparison of the P-39 put out by FOV for $40 is a bit of apples to oranges because it's mostly metal and more expensive to produce. Secondly if 21C can package TWO 1/32 scale WW2 birds in duel packs and sell them at Wal Mart for $30 and Badcat for $35 which roughly equates into one modern jet in the 1/32 scale in terms of materials then I deem the pricepoint set by BBI as too high. I still stick by my initial reaction to the price and that is it's a bit too steep for a 1/32 scale warbird. To those who wish to purchase the Phantom now and pay the price then that certainly is your right and I understand. I certainly mean no disrepsect to anyone, I just feel very strongly that BBI got the price wrong.

I was filling out the pre-order info on the BCA website and when it came to shipping and bottom line, I cleared my info and breathed a sigh of relief...I left 1/18 a few months ago for the more size-favorable 1/32 which had a secondary advantage-$$$, but, now this. Beautiful airplane for sure, though.

Personally, the price for the BBI F-4 doesn't surprise me. While we are used to cheaper 1:32 planes, namely the 32x line from 21c, those are less than half the size and amount of plastic as the 1:32 F-4. My father has a 1:32 F-4 model and the plane is big - comparable to our average sized 1:18 WWII fighter. Actually, as my dad has a 21c Avenger and Corsair hanging in his office as well, so I can accurately judge the size of the F-4. It is nearly 24 inches long, making it nearly 3 inches longer than the Corsair! The wingspan on the 1:32 F-4 will be around 14 inches.

Given that we pay at least $50 at small retailers for an average sized 1:18 plane, the cost for a large 1:32 aircraft does not surprise me. Also, we are not paying int he $80+ price range as we would be for new Corgi and GMP 1:32 aircraft, which with the exception of the Mosquito, are much smaller than the F-4

Also, one needs to take into account the features. That is a lot of engineering (flaps, folding wings, gear, ordinance, etc) Yeah, it is a heafty chunk of change, but I feel it will be well worth it.
