BBi RAAF Hornets ?

Post by vmf214 » Tue Nov 13, 2007 1:49 pm

Anyone have these? I believe the 2 versions were 2OCU and 75 Sqn. I have the Mustangs but am on the fence about spending big$$$$ for the Hornets.

I assume you'll be getting them from aussieland. The only place I know of that has them is a very great seller (I'm assuming you got your 'stangs from the same place I got mine) . I've been mulling them over for sometime now. But the available airspace is being reserved for the B-25, F-4, etc, since I already have the common F-18. Figure the same quality but with different and, for here, unique markings. Can't go wrong from what I can tell, but yeah, it's costly

I have the 75 squadron one, in fact the Aussie ones are about you can get down here and the retail at AU$225 (that would be a good reason i only have one).

The paint schemes are fairly accurate only being marginally different to that of the US variety and both planes wear a 80-90s style Hi-Vis set of markings, even though most 75 squadron planes have not worn the Hi-Vis stuff since about 2003, as such both ships have the old RAF style tri-colour fin flash which has for some time been replaced by an Australian Flag style fin flash, sadly the serial number of the 75 squadron plane is not one of the Gulf veterans. The biggest goof as far as the paint schemes go is that BBI have put roundels on the top of the wings and not underneath when it should actually be the other way around, as far as I know our RAAF F/A-18s have never had roundels on the top of the wings.

One day I will get rid of the upper wing roundels and may replace all the Hi-Vis ones with the Lo-Res variety, however I will be leaving the rest of the squadron marking intact as hi-Res as I have seen quite a few birds with a mix of Lo-Vis Roundels and Hi-Vis squadron makings.

I also wish that like BBI’s camouflaged RAAF P-51D that a Hornet in 3 squadron colours had also been made, this being one of my favourite units due to this squadrons use of the Southern Cross stars on the tails of their aircraft.

Hope this helps some.

I'll see if I can do a photo session this weekend, besides I had promised to get some images for the data base, it's just that I need to move a stack of stuff around on the shelf (not mention the floor) before I can get to the Hornet.
