1 to 1 static display

Post by pickelhaube » Fri Oct 12, 2007 8:35 pm

If we all had a front yard big enough and the wife or other lady friend said that it was ok. And neighborhood rules and regs allowed it. What one plane would you put in the front yard for static display? 1 to 1 scale. It could be in flying condition or not .
How about you armor guys?
I would have a P-38 and for the armor it would have to be the Koeng Tiger
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

With all the if"s, I'd go for a B-36 with escort. No joke, Atwater has one and it is incredible. I was there when the brits came along to strip their loaned Vulcan of parts to support the Falklands War.

The wifey never let me put our 1/1 White M-3 half-track in the front yard but I did have our 57mm anti tank gun there for a year before I moved it for a parade and when I returned Mrs. TTT had taken the spot over and planted stinken flowers. Then the 57mm gun joined the half-track and my three Dodges in and around the garage in the back.....

Given the choice of anything, I like a Hellcat tank destroyer on one side and maybe a M-3 Stuart on the other.

BTW - When I purchased one of my Dodges, the owner had a war surplus store and on one side of the store sat a B-25 and on the other was a M-4 HST and a half-track......just the neatest stuff.

Lets see, I'll take a nice big ole B-24J Liberator. I would start all four of the engines every morning to make the neighbors happy. :D

I once saw a Mig-21 airframe and working engine on e-bay. NO JOKE! It was something crazy cheap (or so it seemed to me for what it was) for 32k. It was not air worthy and had to be shipped from another country but it was for sale. I thought it would be a cool way to clear the driveway in winter. Poin the engine to the driveway fire it up and burn off the snow. LOL.

The coolest and weirdest auction I saw was for a Tiger Tank for sale. It was in Russia, it was on a farm still half burried in the dirt which used to be mud at some point. It was something like 250k. The weird and scary part was that you had to remove it, transport it, deal with customs, and the worst part... Figure out what to do with the dead soldiers in the tank still. -YEAH, like the US will just let you bring that into the country "as is". The seller claimed that because it was on his land it was never removed by the Government and franly was not a concern. I guess in some places things are handled different.

The last cool auction I watched once was for an Enigma Machine that still worked. It was 40k. Very Very cool piece of History and also easier to bring into the US.

Really liked the Tiger Tank!

I think a Black Widow would be cool in the front yard and a Jagdpanther would look cool too :D

Now, here is what we do with an F-104 tail here in Belgium

I will own a tank one day. I am not even all that picky. But, I will have a tank to run the land if she gets horses.

I'll stick with armor and like Phil, I'll go with the Jadgpanther. But it would go in the backyard near the brook but in the woods so the P-51's won't see 'em. 8)

I would have to go with either a B-17 or a working huey that I could land on a platform on the top of my house - for a quicker commute to work!

But a sherman tank on the front lawn with a working turret would be nice friendly way of getting the the neighbor's dogs to hush!

well, " Le Raidillon" is the name of a famous curve on the Spa-Francorchamps Formula 1 racing circuit here in Belgium.

You can see it here :

The other words in "Brasserie" wich is a brewery :D

I'd second an A-10 loaded to the gills with the 30mm Cannon loaded with blanks.
