Kind of cheap, don't you think?

Post by B24guy » Tue Oct 09, 2007 12:08 pm

Did anyone notice on the instruction sheet that came with the BBI Hellcat, there is a small section that shows the wing rockets. I mean it shows you can order them, they don't come with the model. Now the model already has holes at the bottom of the wings for the rockets to fit, you just have to order them separate. The Corsair comes with the rocket in the box, and both models use the same rockets. Does anyone else find this kind of cheap on BBIs part to make a model as nice as the Hellcat, and make you order the wing rockets???? :(

If that trend keeps up pretty soon we'll be getting charged extra for the pilots.

You have got to be kidding!?!?!?!!??! Man.... cheap is an understatement. Next thing you know, they will charge extra for the pilot, the paint, and the box.....geez.

I knew this and it's one of the many reasons I am ticked off at Bbi.

I think if they are not going to include rockets, then they need to delete the hole in the wings.

Make them drillable like Monogram did in the 60's

Might be more to the story perhaps. Similar to the screw hole covers on the avenger, not being done in time for shipping, or .. ?

Does it say how much they are?

First the missing kill flags decal running at $ 4.50 each and now this...

Either the screw caps are missing or someone "forgot" to include the fuselage markings. Either way you just have to pay more for each little "extra".

Really makes you wonder what's wrong with 1:18 ac manufacturers. They crank out planes like there was no tomorrow but can't seem to get them right.

What's with this chronic Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder? Are they low on Ritalin or what?

Shouldn't the screw hole covers have been done by now?? There's alotta folks wondering where their's are.

As for the rockets, IIRC, when asked many folks asked for after market options to be available, including armament and pilots, so only those wanting them would pay extra for having them. Even through I didn't vote for it, I'm a landing gear extra guy, since mine are all hanging.

Sorry for my ranting again, these covers are a bit of a sore point.

The screw hole covers for the Avenger will probably never happen at this stage--production has moved onto other stuff, and even if they DO make another Avenger run, I doubt it will in Atlantic covers, so you would have to custom paint them yourself to match.

As far as not including rockets, I thought we agreed that it would be nice to be able to get optional armaments for existing aircraft, or something beyond the basics. But not to leave the basics off an aircraft!

someone on here had the clever idea of using pencil erasers, cut into thin slices to make screw hole covers. I tried it and it worked pretty well. You'll need to different sizes of pencil erasers and have to match the paint yourself, but that's pretty easy.

Took me less than two hours to completely cover all the screw holes with this method.
i never met an airplane i didn't like...

I wasn't really disappointed with the lack of rockets...because Alexander Vraciu wasn't really known for ground attack/support roles. He was famous for dogfighting. So even if BBI did include rockets, I'd probably leave them off.

On the other hand, the Hellcat I got was missing a landing gear cover. Fortunately, the good people at BCA were awesome when it comes to customer service, and they promised to ship out that missing part this week. :D

And I hope that BBI fix that landing gear problem. There's NO way that those gear would stay down.....I even did the, "remove-the-wings-then put-down-the-landing-gear" trick. It didn't work.

I'm disappointed that BBI would screw up this badly on an otherwise fantastic plane. It certainly a step down from their earlier offerings, like the Corsair, Zero, and their modern jets. :(

Here's an idea. Being that Alex didnt use rockets just take some modeling putty and fill in the holes where the rockets would be. Vex decals makes a set of kill flags for the other side of the fusalge and you can get them from Bad Cat.

Lastly alot of collectors are having problems with the landing gear not staying down ect. Well I havent had no problems at all with mine. Everything seem's to work just fine. A step down for BBI? Not in my book. In fact I think they got better with the F6F. As happens from time to time we do get a bad batch of planes here and there and some of you might have had that happen.

Speaking of missing kill flags what about the missing kill flags on Big Beautiful Doll and Old Crow? .

I guess I'm just happy with having a 1/18th F6F.
