21C Fire

Post by olifant » Mon Oct 08, 2007 1:27 pm

I am hoping some of the long time members could bring me up to speed on the 21C plant fire I have heard alluded to.

What I think I had heard was back in 2004 the factory had a fire and all the old 21C molds were destroyed. Is this correct? If so, is this why we are not seeing re-releases of the old 1/6 and 1/18 items?

I would love to get my hands on a Cobra but they go for big bucks nowadays so my dream is there will be a re-release.

...and the A-10, JU-88, FW-190A, F-14...

Just kidding :P

MG-42 is right about the Kubelwagon. Other original moulds (the Panther, Sherman, etc.) we have seen released again since that time. I do not think the Supercobra was destroyed, and it is time for another to be released!

There was a fire a while back for sure. I think it was 04 but it might have been late 03? Anyway- There was some damage to many things (including some early Avenger tooling, that was part of the delay on that bird) As far as I know the Kubel tooling was totally destroyed. Most of the stuff that was cooked was projects that were in development and thus had to be reworked and those projects suffered delays in release but eventually were rebuilt or repaired.

Not much else to tell. The Kubel and the fire are famous because both the fans and 21st would like to see these made once again... However it would mean a brand new kubel. Not all bad news, perhaps someday soon we might get an all new version with new features!

I think a new 1:18 scale German Kubelwagen and also Zundapp motorcycle w/ sidecar would be some excellent smaller items for 21st to consider for release.

How about a Kettengrad with a trailer or small anti tank gun? Neat, small pieces, add a trailer or gun and you can even charge us alot and we'll still buy.......
