GI Joe Pooches

Post by Morian Miner » Mon Jan 31, 2005 6:56 pm

Was slummin' on a GI Joe website, and came across pictures of the next series of VvsV figures. Check this out!

If there's one weakness I have in 1:18, its for GI joe animals, especially dogs. From the looks of it, this might be the nicest pooch GI Joe has put out. Need to check out the ears, but maybe a little paint could make it pass for a Shepard, which means my XD Vietnam guys may get a Dog Soldier.

Some of the other guys looked at me a bit strange when I first started bringing 'fang' along and they would be right hehe, but now they are used to 'us'.

Allright! Now that's what I call a mean looking dog! Have to put several of those fellas in the back of the Dodge trucks.

I don't think that is a dog. If I would guess being with Snake Eyes it is Timber his wolf. It looks great though and better than the first one back in 85:

He was one of my favorite figures. Plus the animal was cool.

Yeah that's Timber (a timberwolf, haha) that is Snakeyes' comrade/protector.

Not sure how well a timberwolf would translate to a shepherd...

That said, "Law & Order", which I think are relatively common vintage Joes, were an MP (or SP?) with a German Sheperd, so you may want to check into the "Law & Order" figure. There was also "Mutt & Junkyard" which I believe was a Rotweiler (Junkyard) and his handler "Mutt".

Now Hasbro, make us some Head Sculpt & Endor Uniform variations! The new Rebel Fleet Trooper gets the JJ Seal of Approval Though!

The only problem with Joe pooches to date is they tend to be on the small side. Junkyard is a personnal fav (which is why I have about 5 of him), but he's a little tiny. For shepards, Joes did much better with "Lamont" who came with Wide Scope (a miniturized version of the 12" shepard in the bomb disposal set), but even he is too small.

That said, one thing that Hasbro seems to be doing is releasing pooches for 12", then scaling them down. This wolf seems to be the one that came with some collections Joe dressed as a German officer. If this is a trend, I hope they eventually scale down the Dobie that came with the WWII Dog Soldier.

I have always thought Juckyard was a Doberman. If he is a Rot, than he's way to small. Timber from 85 was about the best sized animal that Hasbro has made. Order the German Sheperd That Law comes with looks good with some detail.

I don't think this two-park is out yet, but I could be wrong.
