Other hypothetical situation - new variants
Along the same line of thought with the repaint scenario:
If the big three were no longer going to make any new aircraft but instead make minor changes to existing tooling, what aircraft already made would you like to see different variants made?
Same rule as before: pick any combination of three.
My picks:
Bring on:
1. -4 version of the Corsair. Gotta have true Korean War paint possibilities
2. FW 190 A (The "A" was just better looking than the "D")
3. F/A Super Hornet (now we could have Hornets from squadrons that made the transition from Tomcats to SuperBugs!)

A late model Spitfire and a P-51B/C (though both would include significant changes to the current moulds). An easy change to make would be converting the Bf-109G-6 mould into a Bf-109F or a later G variant. With that mould in particular, it seems as though 21c designed it to be adaptable.

I think you guys have hit the nail on the head with most your choices. I frankly am surprised we haven't seen somebody make a P-51B yet. I imagine that it would sell quite well considering the Mustangs popularity. I would like to see a FW-190A, a Spit MK IX, and a F4U-4 Corsair. Just to give you an idea what a -4 Corsair would look like in XD, here's a custom conversion I did a while back.

Thanks. I did make the 4 blade prop out of two 3-blade props. I cut the individual blades off the prop hub, then reshaped the hub with a dremel tool. I put a small piece of wire into each blade and then drilled a hole for each blade in the hub. I glued it all back together and then reshaped it with Tamiya putty and painted it.
The nose art was a real squadron during the Korean war. I found it on a 1/48 scale decal sheet. I scanned it, enlarged it and printed it out on decal paper.

Nice idea, but there's too many differences to make this really practical:Black Lion VF-213 wrote:3. F/A Super Hornet (now we could have Hornets from squadrons that made the transition from Tomcats to SuperBugs!)
Longer fuselage
Bigger wings, tailplane and fins
Totally different engine air intakes and LERX
I'd love to see a SuperBug but it will need a retooling session or three to change the original to the new shape. Unless you're gonna be happy with something that looks like it escaped from the Combat Command line, that is

How about a twin Mustang (P-81 I think)? All it would need is a new mold for the center wing and aieleron. That would look damn sharp in red on black.
