I question for the experts out there. is the hellcat the correct scale because when put next to the corsair it seems out of scale.

Scale ?

Well ,.. for one thing , we're still talkin' about two different aircraft here ,.. so yeah , it would appear a little out of scale but I really doubt it is.

This would be embarrassing for bbi and everyone who's interested.

if someone would measure theirs, we'll know....

but i doubt it is.

Well it may appear like an optical illusion on the scale difference, I don't know for sure. If you look at the photo of the real planes side by side you can see the beefy bulk of the Hellcat compared to the more slender fuselage of the corsair.....http://www.flickr.com/photos/yod/234147654/

the 1/18 hellcat is larger than the corsair and the wings seem to be about the same size and when i see them together in person side by side the the hellcat seems to be stockier and shorter wings than the corsair.

A pic I googled. :P

It looks to me the Hellcat is a bit bigger.

I hope this helps.

the hellcat is in the foreground in that picture so you can't really tell much from it.

As i said, all somebody has to do is measure their hellcat and we'll have the answer. Length and wingspan.

You don't have it?

Here is what I came up with, the hellcat actual wing span is 42’ and 10” the fuselage is 33’ and 7”
They scaled down from these calculations are: 22.38” inches for the fuselage and 28.55” for the wing span

I checked bad Cat and they have listed the dimensions as this :wing 28.5“, fuselage or length 21”

I would say that the Bbi hellcat is real close to the real thing , however there is a missing inch some where in the fuselage, I don’t know if the real world measurements are 100 percent correct.

I got my information out of The Hamlyn Concise Guide to American Aircraft of world war II

more likely it's Badcats measurments are off. They may not have included the propeller hub or something when they measured it. Appears the wingspan is correct and i would be the length is too.

Digger, no, i don't have one yet; in fact i just got around to buying an F-86 a couple of days ago.

I have seen both aircraft in full scale next to each other, and the first impression I got was that the hellcat was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. For some reason people seem to think that the F6 is considerably smaller than the corsair which it is not. I think that the bbi hellcat is, if not perfect scale is very close.

Also I just measured mine and the over all length is 22 3/8" the fuse length alone is 21" so like Aferg said BC didn't include the prop and hub in their measurments.
