1/18 Lancaster bomber kit found...

On my never ending quest to find more 1/18 planes i stumbled across an r/c forum discussing a Lancaster bomber kit that came out in 2001 by a company called Nexus. As far as i know it is still available. It's got a 71 inch wingspan and is about 48 inches long which makes it 3% larger than 1/18 scale or about 1/17.5 scale. Almost perfect in other words.

The kit is basic and just gives you formers, stringers, plans and clear molded canopies, turrets etc. You have to build it and skin it (and put engines and r/c gear in it if so inclined). It's a fair bit of work but worth it if you want one to compliment your xd planes. Price is around 75 pounds plus about 6 pounds shipping.

Here are a couple of sites with info:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37332 page 2 has an email address you can contact Nexus if you want to order one.

Pretty nice. I have seen the process and it appears that it is a matter of technique to avoid wrinkles. Otherwise my dad did a piper cub 1st time and it worked fairly well with minimal problems.

I just ordered this. $200 for a bag full of sticks and a few bits of paper :)

Even if i never get around to building it, just knowing that i COULD have a 1/18 Lancaster if i wanted to is worth the price.

I'm a builder and what I'd do if I were you aferg is cover the aircraft with balsa sheeting. It'll look more realistic especially once painted and you won't have to worry about the tissue or whatever to cover it. It's easier than wrestling with tissue covering, or even monocote, it shapes easily in warm water, then I'd use Super Jet glue to secure the balsa panels. If done right it'll damn near look like a prebuilt diecast once it's detailed and painted. Hell I may get one.

Thanks for the tips VMF.....what about around the cowling area. Lots of tight curves and double curves. Would balsa work on that too?

And what type of paint should i use?

Just in case anyone was thinking of ordering one of these...DON'T. After 6 1/2 weeks i still haven't received the one i ordered and the company that i bought it from (Nexus) is not answering my emails. Looks like i've been scammed.

I paid for it by credit card so i will hopefully be able to get a refund, eventually. I hope i can anyway, given that the company is in Britain i'm not sure if i will be able to....

Sorry to hear about that....hope it all turns out well. Are there any hobby dealers in the UK you can contact and ask if Nexus is a legit company?
