Is the BBI Abrams true 1:18 scale?

I recently got the BBI Apache, Blackhawk, LAV, and Abrams and the Abrams seems a little smallish from what I would expect compared to other 1:18 stuff. Does anyone know if this is to scale or did they "fudge" the scale a little to make it more able to fit on the shelf at Target or something.

it's 1/18. The only BBI product that isn't is the F-16, which is too big at about 1/16.9 scale.

That's interesting. I remember visiting their Toy Fair showroom one year and having them proclaiming how only their line was true 1:18 scale. Apparently they had an "oops" somewhere along the way.

yes, it's very interesting, considering their logo for the line is 'accurate 1/18 scale'. They goofed by assuming the standard dimensions given for the F-16 were for the fuselage length and wingspan (wingtip to wingtip) whereas in fact they include the nose probe and the span over the sidewinder missile rails.

So it ended up about 6% too big. Not a big deal, it's a beautiful plane, but slightly annoying, i guess. :)

Better 6% too large than 40% too small, like a lot of the knock-off brands. And the F-16 IS an awesome looking bird and still gets a lot of attention. But a definite "oops" considering the claim of accuracy.

Yep, I have the F-16 too. Beautiful model. I never knew it was slightly over scale. I have it on a shelf in my office and it always gets oohs and aahs from people who I interview. I also have a convoy of different Humvees and M113's and the Abrams along my window sill. I just hung my Apache and Blackhawk from the ceiling. I had the BBi Kiowa already up there and a Littlebird loading up some special forces guys on the benches being covered by another M113 on the top of a tall shelf. Now I just need some bad guys. I have 3 Middle Eastern warriors and 2 camels, but they seem awfully outnumbered.
