Badcat review and pictures of new ME262

Post by Sabrefan » Fri Aug 24, 2007 8:12 pm

Badcat has a nice review and new pictures of the upcoming 21st Century ME262 model. They gave it a great review, and it weighs almost 3 lbs! Looks like a home run for 21st Century. :D

That ME262 has some great looking main gear wheels and tires. Awesome!

Good review and oh so tempting, but the nightfighter version is the way I'll go! Even though the 21c ME-262 looks amazing and has lots of fine details, its almost just too similar to the AT version for me.

I am not going to order the 21C ME262 as I am also more interested in the Nightfighter. But I might pick one up if I see it a WM.

i learned something today. JATO stands for jet assisted takeoff. I did not know that this existed. i couldn't figure what those silver things behind the rear wheels till i read the review. then wikipdia told me what this was. it's great to learn new things. now i can't wait till this comes out.

the germans also used RATO pods to shorten take off runs for planes. RATO being rocket assited take off.

the 262 looks like a winner. 21c worked hard on this one. Nice they included the bombs, even with this non-sturmovogel version (sturmvogel was the bomber version of the 262 with some internal strengthening modifcations and bomb racks added under the nose....externally pretty much identical to the fighter version and always used the JATO pods for take off). Tires look great...nice touch. I hope the extra weight doesnt make the undercarriage bend over time.

Three thumbs up.. :)

If you look right behind the canopy on the right side you can see where the rear canopy will be on the night fighter version. Looks like they will use the same fuse for both.

I always thought the 262 looked like a whale that sprouted wings and turbojets! But of course it was an important milestone in aviation history. This is surely a superb model, 21st has outdone themselves and you 262 fans are lucky.

BadCat's new review has me very tempted, especially the details on the tires. Still, I've had my heart set on the nightfighter version. I'll probably hold out for that.

Wow - the specs are insane. I'm a bit worried though that the detail and heft have brought not only a higher price but also are going to mean crazy shipping costs!

I doubt this one is going to WalMart, especially in an Avenger sized box...we've all seen that movie and know how it ends..

I seen that,,,no big deal.....it's got a detailed landing gear and tires.

I give it ten out of ten. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

i doubt 21c would be releasing it if WM hadn't committed to taking it...21c just won't make a thing unless it's going to a large retailer, just like BBI won't. AT is the only company that doesn't seem to require a commitment from a large brick and mortar retailer to release 1/18 aircraft.

I'm kinda surprised the 262 won't fit in 21c's standard box. It's not that big a plane and 21c almost got the Avenger to fit in the standard box. I wonder if it's a new intermediate sized box between the two, which could mean a slightly higher price point.....say maybe $50 instead of $40.

In time we shall know all...

It will be intersting to see if the 10 out of 10 still stands when you've got one in hand.

It's definitely going to be going for a higher price, Bad Cat even says so in the review.

"It is a premium product that is an absolute bargain at the soon-to-be changing price of $64.99."

I think it is probably going to be going for around $79 just like the Bunker Hill Avenger and California Cutie shown. Both of them have the same "list" price as the Me 262. IF it does show up in Wal-Mart or TRU, I'll bet it goes for around $50 to $60. With TRU in the mix, I don't know if Wal-Mart would have to commit to it or not now. TRU could be the major retailer now. Who knows if Wal-Mart is still in the mix for 1/18 scale.... :?

Have to keep watching..............

well i hope you're wrong because if this thing sells for 79.99 at WM or TRU it will sit there forever, and that's not good for anyone.

Besides, AT's 262 wasnt at a premium price, it was the same as their Sabre and i can't imagine 21c coming out with the same plane and charging a bundle more for it.

I hope I'm wrong too. However, look at the list price for AT's Me262, it list for roughly only $4 more than 21st Me262 does now at a "premium price" and that's supposed to change. If the price goes up, which is indicative by Bad Cat's review comment, I'm sure it will go up more than just $4. If not, that's not much of a "premium price" in my opinion.

I agree with you though Aferg, if it goes up to the price of the Avenger or P-38, I don't think they are going to move much even though it is a really nice model. I don't think that will be bad for the hobby though, just bad for the sale of this particular model for 21st. They should have put the night fighter version out first to complement AT's already fantastic Me262.

Amen to that! If this was the nightfighter version, I'd be all over it  Still, the price for the ME-262 is a factor of concern. I'm not sure why it needs such a large box - AT did it in a relatively small package and as someone noted earlier, the ME-262 is NOT on the size scale of the Avenger. The AT version also costs approximately the same and less, depending on where you get it, and comes with largely the same features and overall looks.

We will have to wait and see, now wont we.
But from what I can tell from the pic's we have a real winner here, just like AT me-262

As for the box size of 21st me-262, I took my box of AT-me262 and compared it to the avenger's box, they are the same length. Interesting I thought. Cant wait to see if the box of 21st me-262 is the same length as AT me-262 is.
