New Otto's ?

Post by MG-42 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 1:46 pm

Somehow ,.. I consider the 3 new Otto's I found on clearance @ WAL* MART , to be ( S-2 ) considering the date on the backs of their cards ,.. 2006.

...... but I'm sure this is of some debate and controversy with others ,.. but "oh well".

i like the S2 Otto the best. Blondie is ok but i don't like him as much, and i'm not even sure S1 Otto has an accurate camo scheme. If it is it was pretty rare.

Yeah ,.. I just think the 1st. Otto was a goof , as far as correct camo goes ,.. but at least 21st. rectified this with their 2 new releases. + = 8)

Re: Ghosts...Normandy, you slay me...! Now we need a Johnny Depp figure in a Patton uniform to take on the DAK ...are you ready for Pirates of Tunisia... :)
PS, mega-thanks for you're extreme intel & recon, woodja believe the day you posted the Carle Place Hano sighting I was cruising down the Meadowbrook on the way home from Westchester, didn't even think of stopping there, kicked myself when I got home...finally got one
in Suffolk, & in any case they're showing up lately all over the place...and although the figures in general are getting snatched up pretty quicky, the Windorff has been common enough...hope we don't create an artificial shortage... :?

Thanks lou, that's great information. Can you tell us what the rest of the case pack looked like?

ie, 5 otto s3, 2 tanker harris s2, etc..?

And does anyone have pictures they can post of the re-painted us troops?

I like the S2 Otto, or which ever one the TRU version is. I bought a few more today and they look great riding in my German halftracks. As of yet, my area is devoid of the S3 Ottos at Wal Mart, but I'm in no rush to find them

The case i found had 5 S3 version of Otto , 3 tank drivers and 2 commanders. I never really looked at the drivers but i did buy one of the commanders and the only real difference is the maps actually have something on them not just plain white, also the paint looks a little darker

Ottos

Post by normandy » Sun Aug 19, 2007 5:06 am

I like the S3 figure the best followed by the S2 Otto except for the skin tone, way to dark. It might work on the DAK figs but not this one. The S1 fig needs a little work, the ones I have all have a redish glossy skin tone. As for the S1 camo :?: they may have been trying for the late war pattern called Leibermunster.
http://www.kamouflage.net/camouflage/00136/en_index.php Look at the 2nd to last sample.
The Skeletons " Ghosts" are not from Pirates of the Caribbean, they are from the Ray Harryhausen Film Library collection. Jason and the Argonauts 1:18th or so in scale cold cart resin put out by X-Plus a company in Japan.
Oh and the Charlie Chaplin fig  "The Great Dictator" is a DAK fig with the artillery crewmans head.
Currahee, glad to see the Pak Hano and figures are showing up on your end of the Island.

Thanks for the pics. I do like the camo on S3 but S2 is no slouch. I like the bottom half of S3 better but it looks like the collar on S3 is too neon..

I think you are correct Normandy! It does look like that the S1 cammo looks pretty correct according to those samples in the link that you posted. I have a couple of what I thought were good books on cammo, but that scheme was not in them. Thanks for the link. I repaint a lot of my figures and have gotten pretty fair at it. Not professional quality but fair.

I got S3 Otto tonight... Too bad they dont' give some hair/skin tone variations on the D-Day US figures too, but whatever. I'd dig that happening.

I got S3 Otto at Wal-Mart... S2 only seems to be at Toys R Us. Haven't seen a S1 Otto in ages, or any of the S1 figures really. Since the second wave came out with the German Artillery guy, the first wave just stopped shipping, and no more D-Day US figures. :( That, as far as I'm concerned, sucks... No riflemen, no rangers... blah.

The wallys here in Columbus on the south end moved everything around but I managed to locate, er stuble across the X/D and low and behold they had one of the artillery German guy and one of the tracker Richards guy. Needless to say I snatched both of them up. :D I haven't seen wave 2 yet at wallys, only a few at the TRU so far, but I suspect they will be out in force come the holiday shopping season. :)

Found six of the S1's in the last week in central Texas. In So Cal right now and have cleaned out the TRU Ottos in Temecula and Riverside. Some of the WM's have finished their resetting but others are in a holy mess.

Now that I have seen that the S1's cammo is pretty accurate, they have grown on me.

The S1's were the brown colored uniformed versions. Surprised that those are still around. :D :D
