sorry but I couldn't help it....knew it wouldn't be pretty.
Not something I'd be adding to a 1/18 collection for sure.
We need a REAL 1/18 A-10.........
Thanks for the comparison pictures Grunt1!!

Agree, though its pretty neat for what it is and I'm sure the PTE and Joe folks are thrilled.

Still hoping for 1:18 A-10, but it looks slightly better proportioned than the Bbi shrunken A-10 from last year. Oh well, will keep holding out hope for a true 1:18 A-10.

Looks like it would be great for an 6-12 year old kid to play with. But for an adult collector... not so much.

It's not that bad looking, but I guess knowing that it isn't a genuine XD item won't substitute for an authentic looking version.

LOL. I wasn't expecting it to be that bad. Well at least it captures the general shape of the thing and packs some hefty firepower.

Greetings:
I will at least give PTE some credit for attempting to make this aircraft and at least getting it looking somewhat like the actual airplane. Not like the early BBI one or the GI Joe one that we heard about. I mean at least they took on the effort to try it where none of the others have even winked at attempting it. 21st had the full scale mockup and didn't even give it consideration.
I'll get one of these if I see it. Need a A-10 of some sort, PA ANG flies them around here all the time. It will be a reminder when the A-10's are gone of watching them fly over my house everyday!
PTE, kudos for at least making one and putting it on the shelf:)
Corey
Nice Try!!

At least PTE put the thing out, how long have we been waiting for the big guys to put out an A-10...If they can put together the Avenger and now the Hellcat out so fast, what happened to that A-10 prototype that came out years ago..They need to come out with both the A-10 and F-14 since it's been retired from service...Also where is the Phantom and Mitchell at...I enjoy the repaints coming out, but its time for new planes and the big guys need to listen to what their collectors are asking for...I want my A-10...

I saw it yesterday at the Big lots store and I think it looks much better than other planes but the scale size is its major downfall...again to market a real scale 1/18 A-10 would be hard and would have to be broken into different pieces in order to fit a box a la Avenger size.
Anyways, I think PTE did a GREAT job!

the lines and price are good, but even though i've become more compromising over the years (aka being beaten down over time) it's just too small for my tastes. Not much bigger than the P-51 judging from Grunt's excellent pictures.
Perhaps it shows promise that, over time, PTE's planes will continue to get bigger and better and maybe we'll see something like a proper scale Harrier or something like that out of them one day.
I'm still counting on PTE to make a proper sized T-72 someday.

It's odd how the undersides of the wings are hollow, like they should have a bottom panel. I guess that is a cost saving measure so they only have to mold one wing piece and not two that they then have to screw together. Plus I wouldn't imagine most kids would notice.

I want to know what's going on between the 'Hog and the Falcon in the bottom picture...???
It doesn't look too bad in the shape department, even if very (VERY!) underscaled compared to the other birds.
Given the chance, I'd grab a couple for "playing with" ( I don't want to start cutting up my Falcon or Hornet as I'm not that good a modeller, but something like this I would gladly hack away at!).
And, of course, ignoring the blunt-nosed Mavericks, the wrong Sidewinders and the two ECM pods on one bird...

Still, it is only a toy after all.

Yup, the folks around here are not picky, you might just get away with that, and make a profit too.

Just makes sure the balsa plane has the proper dihedral and you should be all set..

I like it and bought one. I collect "toy" type planes as well. PTE stuff is definitely meant to be played with and not displayed. The elimination of undersurfaces on the wings is a weight saving measure so the little ones can at least pick it up, been done in the toy biz for years that way.

Well the "biz" must not have used that back in the 80's because GI Joe aircraft weighed a ton.

Keep in mind guys, that this is a toy geared for the GI Joe crowd. And as such is scaled for the GI Joe crowd.
This thing is perfectly in scale with the old Joe vehicles, as seen in this pic:

I wish as much as anyone else for a true to scale A-10, and this ain't it. But it's above and beyond what anyone else has put out to date. Sorry this isn't you cup of 1:18.

To "some" I guess...
Aircraft in my collection with this feature used by the "biz":
Hasbro, Mattel, Bachmann, Tomy, Imperial, Cragstan, Kenner, Processed Plastics (Timmee), just to name a few.

A few other reasons for the lack of a bottom wing surface:
1) Less material = cheaper to produce
2) Can be done as a single piece instead of two halves (no seam and reduced assembly cost).
3) Molding a surface that large as a solid piece of plastic, it would be more difficult to offset any tendencies of the plastic to deform coming out of the mold.

I saw this at the Big Lots in Suffolk VA yesterday and must say it is bigger than I thought it would be. Not sure if it's underscale, but if it is a full scale A-10 will be huge.
I suppose you could take one of these, fill the underside of the wings with balsa and sand it to shape. I think that would take care of the ugliness of it, but you'd have to paint it.
The Big Lots had quite a few 1/18 PTE sets and figures.

So, about what scale would everyone estimate the PTE Hog to be...... 1/32?

Probably a bit bigger.......around 1/27 ish. If Grunt can measure his for us we can figure it out exactly.
